A 1-month-old boy was left in serious condition Sunday after his father smashed his head off a car seat handle in the Bronx, cops said Sunday.

Leroy Peters allegedly picked the child up so forcefully, he struck the infant’s head “on the bar above the car seat” in the family’s apartment on Friday morning, police said.

The baby’s mom noticed he was slumped in the car seat when Peters came to pick her up from an overnight security shift a short time later, police sources said. She tried to splash water on the child’s face but called 911 when he was unresponsive.

Peters was arrested Friday night and charged with reckless assault to a child and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, cops said.

Doctors at Mount Sinai Hospital told cops the baby suffered a brain hemorrhage, subdural hematomas and skull fractures, according to police sources.

The child was in “grave condition” and “likely to die,” a police spokesman said, adding that the charges would be upgraded if the baby did not make it.

He most likely punched that baby right in the face cause he needed his diaper changed or was crying cause he was hungry or, most importantly, interrupted "daddy" while playing the all important video game. I don't think he could hit his head on a car seat handle so hard that it caused a subdural hematoma or skull fractures, more than one, which means he hit him more than once.

Short and sweet version, I don't believe a word he says. He's a lying liar who lies.

That was my first thought. Bastard punched/beat the cutie pie.

All of bars on all of the infant car seats I’ve seen in the past 5 years are highly padded. How hard or with what force does it take to fracture an infants skull. What kind of person does that? An impatient, easily irritated, self centered wastrel! Good for absolutely nothing! I’m with everyone else, I don’t believe that is what happened . He assaulted the baby in a forceful ,violent manner.

@Busy Bee neither one of my grands (3 & 1) infant carriers handle bars were padded.. they were hard plastic that we attached toys to.. this was an infant carrier - not a car seat.. I have never seen a handle on a carrier padded..
