A monster who beat her seven-month-old daughter to death after abusing her for nearly half of her life has been jailed for six years.

Shalini Padmanabha, 33, abused baby Shagun for three months after the premature baby spent four and a half months in hospital.

The girl suffered severe head injuries from Padmanabha hitting her or bashing her head against a hard surface and died in the early hours of 15 August 2017.

Shagun was conceived using IVF after Padmanabha spent several years trying to conceive with her husband before successfully giving birth in February 2016.

The bitch maintained her innocence throughout the trial but while a jury cleared her of murder, they instead convicted her of manslaughter and of cruelty against a person under 16.
Sentencing her at the Old Bailey on Friday Mrs Justice McGowan said: ‘You had, in my experience, an unprecedented amount of care and intervention.

‘I accept entirely that you are devastated by the loss of your child.

‘You were carrying out acts of assault against this baby or knew, no doubt almost immediately after an incident occurred that you had done something you shouldn’t.

‘It is entirely wrong to say you show remorse and even now you do not accept responsibility.’

Shagun had suffered an 8cm and 11cm fracture to the skull as well as injuries to the legs, the court heard.

Doctors found a number of older healing injuries including new and healing fractures to the skull, cracked ribs and bleeding behind the eyes during her post mortem.

The injuries found were consistent with Shagun being shaken, squeezed by the ribs and having her left leg twisted and pulled.

Some injuries dated as far back as three months, showing the seven-month-old had been abused for almost half her life, and the majority of the time she was out of hospital.

Mental health it’s not an excuse for hurting/killing a baby but something must have been going on with her mental health. One doesn’t go through IVF just to kill the baby. I wish somebody would have caught the red flags, there are always flags, some people just choose to ignore them. I’m so sorry this happened to you, Baby Shagun.

I'm curious... She maintains her innocence, how do they know it was her?

Side note, baby looks to have some kind of genetic disorder or other disability. Maybe mild Treacher Collins or something? I wonder if that had anything to do with mom's sudden desire to not have a baby anymore.

There are very large Pakistani communities in Britain, where first cousin marriages are super common. The number of genetic defects traced to this practice is high, more than double the rest of the population. With baby spending 4 months in the hospital after birth, it seems clear there was a serious problem, possibly a genetic one (which can cause lifelong and severe disabilities). Perhaps after all the effort to have a baby, mom didn't want one that was damaged.

She should have paid the extra few bucks and had the embroyos genetically tested.

Most couples don't like to do that. There has been widespread outreach to those communities, about reconsidering cousin marriage (due to the high risk of potential genetic issues), and about getting genetic testing before marriage (not all cousin marriages are a problem), and about genetic testing early in pregnancy. I watched a documentary about it.

The majority want to continue cousin marriage (a deeply rooted practice), and refuse genetic testing. Some younger, more educated people are starting to consider the issue, but it's slow going.

I'm also guessing the killer mom was extra disappointed because the baby was defective and also female.

So I think the baby’s head is probably very flat on the back causing the wideness of the face. This is very common for infants who have spent most of their lives on their backs and not being held or given tummy time. Fairly common for premies bc of the time they spend in the incubator, probably exacerbated by mom not wanting to hold the baby. This would’ve been solved by wearing a helmet for a couple months. I don’t think the baby has any genetic defects other than having a demon for a mother.

(look up brachycephaly)

IVF? WTF? Did they 'mate' her to herself? The baby looks like the spitting image of herself! That's probably why she turned that baby into applesauce, it didn't fall far from the tree. What did she expect??

I think you may be right about the brachycephaly... However the article did say she had a small hole in her head, which would suggest having some kind of shunt or operation being done, which would align with hydrocephalus.

She also seems to have a bit of hypertelorism and some other features characteristic of genetic disorders... But could just be her genetic similarity to mom. Don't mind me, I'm just slightly obsessed with every single thing that can go awry when it comes to babies.
