Charles Edwin Brooks, Jr., 29, of Atlanta, was taken into custody Monday, May 3, at 3:38 p.m. by Dallas County Sheriffs and charged with Injury to Child/Elderly/Disabled with Intent to cause Severe Bodily Injury and Serious Mental Deficiency or Impairment.

A source close to the family tells the Journal-Sun that the two-year-old victim sustained serious injury while under the care of Brooks at his Dallas home. Brooks, the child’s stepfather, claims the child fell down the stairs.

Upon arriving via ambulance at Dallas Medical City Hospital, doctors found evidence of abuse, including a severe brain bleed with swelling and adult bite marks on the child's legs.

The victim was immediately placed in Critical ICU under a medically induced coma to allow the brain swelling to lessen. As of Monday evening, the child remained in the coma as doctors slowly began to wean the sedation.

"He is still on medication to keep his blood pressure up; still on the ventilator. Still has the drain in his brain. Still continuously monitoring his brain waves and intracranial pressure. Vital signs are a little more stable, but everything is still up and down depending on how much stimulation he is receiving," our source tells us. "He is on antibiotics and antifungal medication; they’ve been able to wean the oxygen and ventilator is giving him down to 30 and we are hopeful and prayerful that his vital signs and intracranial pressures will continue responding well as they attempt to wean him from the sedation and blood pressure medication," according to the same source.

The victim’s mother and Brooks were married in January and this was the first time that he and the child had been alone for an extended time without the mother present, our source said. That source went on to say that Brooks had driven with the child from his home in Atlanta to his other home in Dallas after picking him up at his grandparents’ house.

The mother had planned to drive to Dallas after leaving work, but when she called to check on them, Brooks allegedly told her the child had fallen down the stairs. The mother immediately called 911 and went directly to the hospital.
FYI He bonded out of jail!!!

I cannot for the life of me understand the biting.
And I am all for letting his soon to be prison buddies know exactly what this rancid inbred p***y does for fun. That’ll really expand his social network in the worst way!

I tried to fine a definitive answer, but 99% of material related to biting is about why children do it. So, I guess the short answer is that adults who bite are partially stuck in some adolescent stage of development.

I did find this short video.

A Texas jury has ordered oil heir Charles Brooks Jr. to pay $1.1 billion after finding he assaulted his toddler stepson in a 2021 attack that left the child with a severe brain injury and lifelong care needs.
Brooks is serving a 40-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to injury to a child and was sentenced in 2023, according to Dallas County court records.
The civil lawsuit, CBS News reports, was filed by the child’s mother, Madison Ball, and the child’s father on behalf of their son, according to The Buzbee Law Firm, which represented the plaintiffs. The firm said Brooks was married to Ball at the time and had been asked to babysit the child.
The firm said Brooks called Ball the night of the assault and told her the child was unresponsive.

“When Madison Ball expressed alarm and insisted that Brooks call 911, he refused,” the firm said in a statement. “Ball called instead. When first responders arrived, they found the child beaten severely, with bite marks on his legs. The child was nonresponsive. The brutal beating caused severe brain injury, resulting in the child being confined to a wheelchair and requiring 24-hour care.”
Court records show the child was awarded $290.9 million in compensatory damages, while the child and his parents received $810 million in punitive damages.

The child is now 7 years old, according to CBS.

Brooks is the great-grandson of Percy Turner, an early investor in Humble Oil, now part of ExxonMobil.

I don't think mom should have been awarded anything.... she brought this monster into her child's life.

Has she learned her lesson or just found a new monster with a different face, name.

Is he also bruised in the picture of him in the Little Tykes car or is that shadow? It looks like bruising if you zoom in on it.
