The mother of A 7-year-old girl who was shot and critically wounded in a drive-by on Saturday night, has passed away, the same day her mother appealed for the public’s help in finding the killer.

At a news conference outside her home near the scene of the crime, Niecey Drayton told CBS4’S Peter D’Oench, “Alana was just 7 years old and she was getting out of the car. And my grandson who was wounded is hanging on. I ask for your prayers and I am just asking if you see something, say something, and keep us in your prayers and please say something if you know anything.”

Miami-Dade Police say the drive-by shooting happened at 8:09 p.m. Saturday.

Drayton’s aunt told CBS4 that her niece had parked her car outside the home when dozens of rounds were fired from another car. A man and a woman were wounded along with Drayton’s 1-year-old grandson and 7-year-old daughter Alana Washington.

Tangela Sears, the President of Mothers of Murdered Children, said Washington was in critical condition at the Ryder Trauma Center, but was declared “brain dead” on Sunday. Police officially called it a homicide on Monday.

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said “Here we are again because of what has happened in this community. This was a senseless shooting and too many times we are crying for families and reaching out to the community. Somebody knows something and as mothers we are begging you help, through social media, anything, any kernel of information will help.”

There is now a reward of up to $15,000 in this case, thanks to an added contribution from Miami-Dade Police and $5,000 from the office of State Sen. Linda Kraft of Miami and $5,000 from the office of Miami-Dade Commission Chairwoman Audrey Edmonson.

Sickening. Sadly he may never be found. But wtf, the kids were out of the car, he HAD to have seen them and known not to just spray bullets everywhere. Was it someone's ex?

They said dozens of rounds, was it a semiautomatic? Not your usual gangbanger weapon but who knows.

Officials have raised the reward again in the search for the gunman who killed a young girl in Northwest Miami-Dade.

Alana Washington, 7, died in a drive-by shooting that happened near Northwest 29th Avenue and 51st Street, Saturday.

Three of her family members were also shot.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez and several other county commissioners have all pledged money, bringing the total reward now to $55,000.

Surveillance video from a Miami flea market, cell records and eyewitness testimony led to the arrest of two men accused of murdering 7-year-old Alana Washington during a drive-by shooting, newly released court records show.

The new details emerged one day after Miami-Dade homicide detectives arrested Antonio Robinson, 22, and Jarvis Baker-Flanders, 23, and charged them with Alana’s death. The girl was struck in the head during a drive-by shooting that also wounded a 1-year-old relative and two adults outside a home in Brownsville on July 25.

Also injured in the shooting was a 1-year-old infant named Alto. He was shot and wounded in the thigh. Also shot were Cynthia Bloom, 23, and Alana’s older brother, Demetriel Rice, 24. A man with them went inside the house, grabbed a gun and returned fire.

Both men confessed to their roles in the murder, according to law-enforcement sources. They are charged with second-degree murder and multiple counts of attempted murder.

Investigators believe the drive-by came in retaliation for another fatal shooting months earlier in Northwest Miami-Dade. According to law-enforcement sources, and the arrest warrant released on Thursday, this is what happened:

Robinson and Baker-Flanders were part of a group of men who hang around at the Lincoln Fields apartment complex in Liberty City, and they had roughed up a teenage relative of Rice in May. The following day, on May 2, they saw Rice and his brother and attacked them, investigators believe.

Rice was shot and wounded in the attack, but managed to return fire and fatally hit 21-year-old Dae’yun D. Solomon, who was friends with Robinson and Baker-Flanders, according to sources. Rice was not arrested, as investigators believed he acted in self-defense.

Robinson and Baker-Flanders — who later got a detailed portrait of Solomon tattooed on his chest — vowed revenge, sources said.
