On June 15th, 2017, Sassidy Curry sent her 2-year-old daughter Ocean Wright to Hawaii to get to know her biological father, Chris Whiting.
Ocean lived in Las Vegas with her mother, Sassidy, her stepfather Marcus Wright ,who helped raise Ocean as his own and gave her his last name, and her 2 older siblings. Her mother felt it was safe for Ocean to spend time with her biological father after a previous visit she made to Hawaii ,where her daughter Ocean had the opportunity to get to know her dad.
Seeing that everything went well , she made the decision to let Ocean go alone in a court ordered visitation with her biological father, who was in the army and seemed to have his life in order.
A few weeks after Ocean went to Hawaii, her mother found out that Chris Whiting was in a relationship with a woman who went by the name of Tihani Bowman-Martin, which she thought was odd for he had never mentioned her previously.
Apparently, Tihani was upset at the fact that Ocean was visiting her dad, and would not let Sassidy speak to her daughter when she would call, Instead, she was given all types of excuses.
On August 18, 2017, She received a phone call from Chris Whiting's mother, Shirley Whiting who resided in Florida at the time. Shirley told her that something was wrong with Ocean, and stated that Ocean had an allergic reaction , which immediately confused her because Ocean didn't have any allergies. She had also mentioned that Ocean had been found face down in the shower and that her skin was falling off . After hearing this, Sassidy tried contacting Chris but was unable to speak with him.
In a desperate bid to find out what was going on with her 2-year old daughter, she phoned nearly every hospital in Hawaii looking for her and finally located her in a burn unit where the doctors informed her that Ocean's father had brought her in and said that he had found Ocean next to a plug outlet and that she had been electrocuted....
Sassidy was finally able to reach Chris and confront him about what had happened to their daughter..He stated that he was not at home at the time of the incident, and that when he had come home, Ocean was on the bed wrapped in a cover and he could see her skin falling off.
Her mother immediately got on a flight to Hawaii and was with Ocean in a matter of hours..
and Chris Whiting... well he was nowhere to be found.
Doctors were able to wash Ocean’s skin off and identify exactly how the burns were caused. They had told Sassidy that Ocean had been burned with boiling Hot Water and had sustained 100% burns on her face and 22% on her legs and arms.. they had also confirmed that it was poured over Ocean’s head while being forced to stand as her toes were burned in such a way to signify that this was the way it had occurred.
She was fighting for her life and had undergone many surgeries. she was no longer able to walk, speak or open her eyes.
During this time, Chris Whiting called CPS and put the other 2 children in their care as he felt that they were not safe around Tihani..
Tihani Bowman-Martin was arrested for child abuse and Chris Whiting bailed her out. She had been known for abusing kids and had a previous Cps history for doing it with her own kids but was never arrested as she fled to Hawaii .. Ocean's mother was later informed by the hospital that Ocean had been previously brought to the hospital by Chris for a number of reasons including a fractured eye socket from being hit so hard by Tihani, bruises and a bite wound on her belly ...her hair had also been cut.
Sassidy was never notified and CPS did nothing
Ocean Wright had been tortured for weeks at the hands of 21-year old Tihani Bowman-Martin who was jealous of Ocean's closeness to her Chris.
The courts questioned Tihani’s 4-year-old about what had taken place with Ocean and the child stated that her mother and father were mean to her and would hit her with a stick and hose her down outside. Tihani Bowman-Martin minimised the allegations.
Ocean stayed at the hospital for 5 weeks ..she started getting better...eating on her own, talking and playing. She surpassed all expectations and lived despite her severe burns, damaged lungs, and other problems . Little did they know what would occur next would change their lives forever....
On September 25th, 2017 Ocean had skin grafting surgery done on her face, which Sassidy Curry approved of after being told that without the surgery Ocean was at risk of death due to infection. Sadly, hours later, her heart rate dropped and doctors tried everything they could to bring her back to life.
Ocean Wright passed away at 4:30 pm Hawaii time, she was only 2-years-old .
Chris Whiting did not show up to his own daughters funeral but instead he sent his parents to attended in his place. Days after the funeral, Sassidy found out that Chris Whiting had taken out a life insurance policy out on Ocean without her knowledge or approval.
As of today, Chris Whiting and his girlfriend Tihani Bowman-Martin have not been charged and are living their lives as if nothing ever happened.
Tihani admits to being the cause of Ocean's injuries and her ending up in the hospital ..
In a public forum, she states on her Facebook:
"If I did anything I would be in jail, yeah she was in the hospital cause of me but Sassidy still could have kept her daughter if she was smart..."
