A man who was charged with sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl inside a West Valley City motel room back in 2019 will spend at least 17 years behind bars.

Michael Travers, 54, accepted a plea deal back in December and was sentenced Tuesday.

Documents state Travers admitted that between January and April of 2019, he knowingly used a child who was eight years old, to produce sexually explicit images that were then “shipped, mailed, or transferred in interstate commerce.”

As part of a plea deal, Travers was sentenced to 210 months in prison followed by a lifetime term of supervised release and be listed on the sex offender registry.

Police were notified by the girl’s mother in April 2019 about the abuse. During an interview at the Children’s Justice Center, the girl told investigators that the woman had made her do things that made her uncomfortable.

Police discovered that Milsap would tell the girl’s family she needed her to come with her to the Comfort Inn to help babysit a friend’s child and records show she had rented a room at the Comfort Inn multiple times from January to April 2019, documents state.

Detectives contacted Milsap via text message and she admitted Michael Lee Travers pressured her into touching the girl.

Detectives found text messages between Travers and Milsap telling her he wanted to engage in sexual acts with a child and several images of the woman sexually abusing the girl. Police then discovered the photos were sent by Travers to another person, documents state.

Travers and Milsap were taken into custody in May 2019. Travers was located in California and Milsap was found in Arizona.

Travers originally faced four counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and four counts of sexual exploitation of a child but pleaded guilty to one count Production of Child Pornography as part of the plea deal.

The case against Kristen Milsap is still pending.

The original story is poorly written.
You never refer to a main person in a story without previously identifying them completely. This is called giving context

Kept trying to figure out who Milsap was.
A human?
An imaginary friend?
A stray dog?

Shoddy work.
@Sejanus .. Milsap is the lady who posed as the babysitter .. Cannot find that she was related to the family at all but...
Milsap, who has a previous conviction of DUI over an incident where she ran into the back of a vehicle with a variety of prescription drugs in her system, is scheduled to be tried on the same charges at a later date.

I really question the parents of the girl -

@caitierig

As a parent wouldn't you ask a grown ass woman why she needs an 8yo to help her babysit at a comfort inn.

Maybe mom did not exactly know what was going on but if the 8yo was given any money for "babysitting" I bet the mom took it.
She probably was just happy to have some time childless without having to pay for it

I know this post is ancient but...
The man here, Michael, is my biological father. I can elaborate further if necessary, but... I recently found out about this case and to say it's been a bombshell is putting it lightly. It's probably easy to guess but he's always been a monster... And even as his daughter, I feel 17yrs is nowhere near enough. He's a disgrace to the world and to me.

@Ittibittiremi My heart hurts for you. Remember that you don't have to be stuck with the relatives you were born to, you can choose to make your own family. You seem like a strong, intelligent young lady and I wish the best for you. **And welcome to the DD!**
Thank you very much. For a little backstory: I was born an only child on 06/18/1992. He was never physically abusive but he mentally abused us severely. He and my mother had a very bad marriage, and after their separation he disappeared when I was 9 (I'm 28 now). In 2018 he contacted me and we began speaking and I foolishly thought maybe I'd finally have a father, not really dwelling on the questionable things he'd done in my life. He began sending creepy, sexual messages to me and I cut all contact. In the past, my mother had horrific stories to tell me of him but I never dreamed this would happen. Words can't convey how it feels to share DNA with Mike, especially as a survivor of sexual abuse. Sick doesn't describe my reaction to learning about it. I say all of this to bring a human element to this. He was a real person. He was a volunteer firefighter and amateur storm chaser. He was afraid of cotton balls and he wore shorts regardless of the temperature. He grew up in Indiana and I spent a very large part of my home schooled childhood in a truck with him. He was an excellent driver in spite of everything else. He used to shake his leg uncontrollably and it's something I also do to this day. His nickname for me was "Bug." I still legally have his last name which I am changing ASAP for obvious reasons. All of this matters because it's easy to make ourselves believe these people are almost not real and that they aren't common. He lived a normal life and had a family. I called him daddy. And he's a monster. It can be anyone. We have to work with that to one day stop these evil acts. I truly hope he never sees the light of day again. He walked out of my life when I was 9 but he died when he did this. I hope the victim is able to heal and thrive and be happy in spite of all of this.

Im so sorry. That sounds so awful on so many levels. Remember that you can always start a new chapter for your family, starting now, that doesn't have his taint

@Ittibittiremi You are correct. We seem to forget the human element and only see the monster. If you spend any time around here, you'll understand why.

I just want you to know that I am proud of you. And no matter who contributed to your conception, you are bright and strong and this in no way defines you. Hold your chin up high, m'dear. You deserve it.

I was fortunate in that I was disconnected for a lot of my life. I have been able to live despite him. I am a graphic designer, I'm very happily married and have a wonderful son. He taught me how not to be. This was a massive bombshell but my heart truly breaks for the child he hurt. Thank you all for the phenomenal support. This isn't something you talk with friends over, so it's nice to be heard.

Despite what you knew about your actual father, your need for a fantasy father was so strong you discarded common sense. That's a sad human need that explains many cases here on the Demon.
You have a story to share in this case, but maybe you'll stay and give input on other articles. You have valuable perspective.
I hope you will stay around.

You are so lucky he disappeared from your life, you can't know what he was capable of with you and just remember that you are better than this situation.
