Local law enforcement and the GBI spent nearly four hours Wednesday at the scene where the bodies of two Floyd County women were found after apparently being dropped over an East Rome Bypass bridge.
The GBI confirmed Thursday afternoon it is treating the deaths as a homicide as they continue their investigation.
The bodies of the two women, who were sisters, were found on a dry area under the northbound bridge over the Etowah River near Grizzard Park. They were removed from the scene with the help of Rome-Floyd County Fire Department personnel.

Floyd County Chief Deputy Coroner Connie Chandler confirmed the identity of the two women found dead as 19-year-old Vanita Nicole "Vera" Richardson, and 30-year-old Truvenia Clarece "Bean" Campbell.

Chandler said the cause of their death is under investigation and the bodies of the two women were taken to the state crime lab on Thursday morning.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested a Rome man on an obstruction charge stemming from the investigation into the death of two women.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions concerning the deaths of 19-year-old Vanita Nicole Richardson and her 31-year-old sister, Truvenia Clarece Campbell.

The bodies of the two women were found with bags over their heads after being dumped off the bypass bridge near the Etowah River early May 13. Rome police quickly turned over the case to the GBI, who have only released a few details concerning the deaths.

However, on Monday afternoon, agents along with local law enforcement were in force at the Callier Forest Apartments on Dodd Boulevard. In that action they arrested 28-year-old Desmond Lavonte Brown on a misdemeanor obstruction charge.

The Rome Police Department was requested by the GBI to pull over a vehicle in the location to execute a search warrant around 2 p.m. Monday, according to 911 traffic.

Brown is charged with entering a vehicle after being told not to do so by police and then resisting officers before being restrained.

GBI spokesperson Nelly Miles said the agency is not ready to report any updates on the homicide investigation but described the case as “very active.”

That shit is going to be dropped unless they can charge him with something else.. Unless you're under arrest you can leave anytime (enter vehicle) not you're arrested because you left under questioning..

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations have charged three men for the May killing of two half-sisters whose bodies were found in a Georgia river in May with bags over their heads.

In a press release, the GBI announced the arrest of Christopher Pullen, 23, and gave additional charges to 28-year-old Desmond Brown and 36-year-old Devin Watts.

All three have been charged with felony murder for the deaths of 19-year-old Vanita Richardson and Truvenia Campell, 31.

They are all being held at the Floyd County Jail.

The two women were last seen alive on May 12. A work crew discovered their bodies beneath the East Rome Bypass bridge near the bank of the Etowah River the following morning.

Brown and Watts were arrested in connection to the killing soon after.

In addition to the murder charges, Brown and Watts are also charged with two counts of malice murder and possession of a firearm.

All three have been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, two counts of abandonment of a dead body, three counts of tampering with evidence, theft by taking and false statement and writings.

A motive has not been released.

According to the Rome News-Tribune, it has come to light that the murders of Vernita Nicole Richardson, 19 and Truvenia Campbell, 31, two sisters from Rome, Georgia, whose bodies were found under the 411 bridge, began with a man discovering his wallet was missing at his birthday party.

“On May 12 Desmond Brown was having a party at his home. Several people including Richardson, Campbell, Devin Watts and Christopher Pullen were there,” according to GBI Special Agent, Ghee Wilson's testimony.

The Rome, Georgia natives, Campbell and Richardson, left the party at some point after 6 p.m. Shortly thereafter, Brown realized he was missing his wallet. He blamed the two sisters, believing they had stolen it. The three men, Brown, Watts and Pullen came up with a plan to get the women into Brown’s Volkswagen Phaeton and get his wallet back.

Wilson testified that Brown pulled to the side of the road and ordered the women out of the car at gunpoint. He demanded to search them, and when Campbell protested, Brown shot her three times. Richardson, who was a high school senior at the time, attempted to comply with the search, but was shot twice by Brown.
With the sisters dead in the trunk of the car, the three men drove around doing errands before tossing their bodies off the 411 bridge. At some point while the men were driving around, Brown’s mother called to inform him that she had found his wallet behind the TV at home.

All that and 3 women dead for nothing. These "men" should be taken out behind the courthouse and shot immediately dead upon being declared guilty. I don't care who actually shot the women; they're all just as guilty of murder in my eyes.

One of the three people arrested in connection to two sisters found dead under a bridge in Rome has been sentenced to life in prison.

Desmond Lavonta Brown was convicted of capital murder by a jury in Cherokee County, Alabama on November 21.

It was not immediately clear when Devin Lashawn Watts and Christopher Leedarius Pullen would have their days in court.
