Father Arrested: Cops Find 2 Children, Ages 2 &3, Locked In Basement Surrounded by Meth, Marijuana In Squalid Home

DAVIESS CO., (WVLT/WFIE) -- Kentucky officials said a welfare check led to a Daviess County man being arrested and facing several serious charges.
Deputies said they were called to check on Austin Fugua, 31, and his two children, ages two and three, WFIE reported.
When investigators arrived, they said they found the two children had been locked in the basement and could not get out because the door was locked on the outside.
According to reports, the children were left in the basement with dangerous items, including suspected meth, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Officials said the house was in poor condition and the children had poor hygiene.
Fuqua was arrested and taken to the Daviess County Detention Center where he is charged with two counts of wanton endangerment, two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, two counts of unlawful imprisonments, two counts of criminal abuse, along with drug possession charges.

I think it's gonna get worse. Kids are gonna be home longer which means the abusive parent gets worse and worse. Some kids are gonna go through hell this summer. My heart breaks just thinking about it.

Deputies found them in a basement that was locked from the outside covered in feces and living in a room covered with dirty diapers, garbage, scrap wood and other miscellaneous items. The children are currently staying with a family member.

I hope the family member is the one who reported the neglect and endangerment. Not one that knew and did nothing to protect these children.

It is heartbreaking to think the damage this man has done to these two children. Development at age two and three is very important and I hope the family member was fully vetted and being monitored so those children are safe.
