An eastern Iowa woman wanted in connection with the death of her son has been arrested while her one-time boyfriend remains at large.

24-year-old Jacqueline Majanise Rambert, of Davenport, was taken into custody Tuesday in Chicago.

Murder warrants were issued for Rambert and 26-year-old Tre DeSean Henderson for the death of 5-year-old Ja’Shawn Bussell. The boy died on May 1, 10 days after he was assaulted.

Authorities say Henderson fled the Davenport area and remains at large.

Rambert’s pastor in Chicago, Brad Beier, says Rambert never fled from police and has been cooperating with them.

Authorities say Henderson assaulted the boy, causing head and other injuries. Bussell was taken to a Davenport hospital and then airlifted to Iowa City, where he died.

A Chicago woman charged in the death of her 5-year-old son Ja’Shawn Bussell in Davenport last year is now competent to stand trial after undergoing several months of restoration treatment, a judge ruled.

District Court Judge Thomas Reidel said during a short hearing that the proceedings can resume against Jacqueline M. Rambert, 25, who is charged with first-degree murder, child endangerment-multiple acts, and child endangerment resulting in death.

The judge in February determined that Rambert suffered from a mental disorder that prevented her from appreciating the charge, understanding the proceedings or assisting effectively in her defense and ordered that she receive restoration treatment at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Coralville.

Reidel ordered that Rambert be returned to the Scott County Jail. A trial date has not yet been set.

Rambert's co-defendant Tre D. Henderson, 27, also of Chicago, is also charged with first-degree murder, child endangerment-multiple acts, and child endangerment resulting in death in the boy's death.
On April 27, 2018, Rambert called 911 because her son was choking and unresponsive, according to an arrest affidavit filed in the case.

Bussell died May 1, 2018; an autopsy determined he died from complications of blunt force injuries of the head. The autopsy also revealed numerous injuries of the torso and extremities, including multiple healing rib fractures and contusions of the diaphragm.

Henderson was slated to go to trial in August. Reidel granted his motion to continue to give the defense additional time to consult with potential expert witnesses.

This case rests largely on medical testimony and additional time is needed for the defense to determine what areas of expertise may be required, to consult with potential expert witnesses in each area and coordinate scheduling should any expert witnesses be retained.

A woman has taken a plea deal on charges stemming from the beating death of her 5-year-old son in Iowa.

Jacqueline Rambert pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of child endangerment. Prosecutors agreed to drop a murder charge. Rambert agreed to testify against her co-defendant and former boyfriend, Tre Henderson, at his trial.

Court documents say Henderson assaulted Ja'Shawn Bussell in April 2018, causing head and other injuries that resulted in the boy vomiting several times over a four-day period.

A man was convicted of the Iowa beating death of the 5-year-old son of his girlfriend — a woman who testified against him and who also is awaiting sentencing.

A jury in Davenport found Tre Henderson guilty of first-degree murder and other crimes.
Prosecutors said little Ja'Shawn Bussell had 17 broken ribs, damage to a number of internal organs and bruises from the top of his head to his ankles after Henderson beat him on April 22, 2018. Ja'Shawn vomited several times over the next four days before being taken to a hospital, court records say. He was taken off life support and died May 1, the records say.

Even though she was given a plea deal she is just as guilty if not worse for letting her son suffer for four days before getting him help.

Someone needs to tell her Pastor to save the bullshit she only cooperated so that she would lighter sentence.

She did not give a damn about her baby and only did it for herself.

"A woman from Chicago has been sentenced to 50 years in prison on charges stemming from the beating death of her 5-year-old son in Iowa.

Jacqueline Rambert, 26, was sentenced Friday in Davenport, court records said. She pleaded guilty to child endangerment resulting in death and child endangerment-multiple acts. Prosecutors agreed to drop a murder charge in return for her pleas.

As part of her plea deal, Rambert testified against her co-defendant and former boyfriend, Tre Henderson. He was convicted Feb. 13 of first-degree murder and other crimes. The 28-year-old is scheduled to be sentenced April 1 to life in prison without possibility of parole."

A Chicago man convicted of killing his girlfriend's 5-year-old son was sentenced to life in prison on April 1.

According to Davenport Police, Tre Henderson, 28, was taking care of his girlfriend's 5-year-old son JaShawn Bussell on April 22, 2017, when he "knowingly acted in a manner which caused substantial risk to the child's safety and failed to seek medical treatment" after the child suffered a head injury. They say the child "vomited multiple times over a four-day period" after sustaining the head injury. He was airlifted to the hospital.

"He had broken ribs, he had a fractured spine, he had the brain injury, bleeding on the brain," said the boy's aunt, Esha Malone, who lives in Wisconsin.

Prosecutors say Henderson beat JaShawn to death. Tre Henderson then went on the run for four months before he was found and arrested by U.S. Marshals in Gary, Indiana, on Aug. 28, 2018.

JaShawn's mother, Jacqueline Majanise Rambert, was arrested in Chicago and also charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment. She pleaded guilty to two counts of child endangerment. Rambert was sentenced on March 20 in Davenport to 50 years in prison.

The Iowa Court of Appeals has upheld the Scott County murder conviction of a man for the slaying of a child.

A Scott County jury convicted Tre Henderson on Feb. 13, 2020, on one count each of first-degree murder, child endangerment resulting in death and child endangerment-multiple acts.

The appellate court has affirmed the conviction, according to Scott County Attorney Mike Walton.

"The child suffered severe head injury as well as numerous broken bones that occurred over the span of several weeks in 2018," Walton said. "Henderson was found guilty by a Scott County jury in 2020. The Court of Appeals determined prosecutors presented significant circumstantial evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt Henderson caused the injuries and death to the child. He was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole."
