Hannah Cornelius, 21 was kidnapped, gang raped and murdered after giving a pal a lift home to stop robbers stealing his skateboard, a court in South Africa heard.

Cornelius, 21, pulled up outside the flat of fellow student Cheslin Marsh, 22, at midnight when a group of four men rushed her car.

They put a screwdriver to her chest through the open window and opened the passenger door and put a knife to the back of Mr Marsh and threatened to kill him.

The Western Cape High Court in Cape Town heard one of the gang shouted at him: 'Sit still or she dies'.

Mr Marsh was robbed of cash and his phone and locked in the car boot and then the four men drove to a drug dealers home to buy drugs and smoked crystal meth.

Mr Marsh was later removed from the trunk and taken into the bushes.

Three men made him lay his head on a rock on the ground and then battered his skull with house bricks until they thought he was dead then left his blood soaked body.

Hannah was dragged into bushes at a vineyard and gang raped by three of the men and then her skull was crushed with a large rock and she was stabbed in the neck.

Four men Vernon Witbooi, 33, Geraldo Parsons, 27, Nashville Julius, 29, and Eben Van Nieberk, 28, face a string of charges including murder, kidnap, robbery and rape.

Whatever happened to that stupid woman "anti rape activist" who had suffered multiple sexual assaults who went to South Africa to protest about rape, then got in a shower with a stranger, kissed him, was raped, and posted tearful selfies about her rape exam. She got off easy. Talk about sabotaging the cause!
I'd like to hear her opinion on this one.

A massive 82lb rock used to smash in the skull of a university student after she was kidnapped and brutally gang-raped has been presented in court.

The two-foot by one-foot by one-foot boulder had been used to cover a borehole and was slammed down on Hannah Cornelius's head twice as she was held down, a court was told.

The fatal blow was delivered after at least three men had taken turns to rape the gifted scholar.

Hannah, 21, would almost certainly have died instantly according to experts. However, to make sure, one of her killers also plunged a knife into her neck.

One of Hannah Cornelius attackers claimed she told the gang they could have sex with her as long as they let her go afterwards.

A weeping Geraldo Parsons told the court he had not wanted to rape Ms Cornelius as he had a girlfriend and young children, but that he 'did it anyway'.

Parsons went from pleading not guilty to confessing to the crime and implicating his co-accused.

He described how he was the first to rape Ms Cornelius, before Witbooi and then van Niekerk.

He claims he told Witbooi to release Ms Cornelius afterwards, but instead, the group threw the 21-year-old in the boot of her own car, and drove to a nearby vineyard.

'She didn't want to climb out of the boot. She was holding on to the car. She started panicking. Eben came up and stabbed her. I let her go as the blood started to spill.'

'Then I saw Vernon arrive with a rock. I told Vernon "don't kill her, we've already killed Cheslin, let's leave her". But Vernon threw the rock on Hannah's head.'

Hannah Cornelius, 21, was carjacked by four men while dropping off fellow student Cheslin Marsh, 22, at his home in Stellenbosch, west of Cape Town, after a night out in May 2017.

The men robbed and assaulted Mr Marsh and left him for dead, before brutally raping Ms Cornelius, stabbing her in the neck and crushing her skull with a rock.

Geraldo Parsons, 27, Vernon Witbooi, 33, and Eben van Niekerk, 28, have today been found guilty of the rape and murder, as well as the kidnap, robbery and attempted murder of Mr Marsh.

Witbooi, whom the judge revealed has a violent criminal record going back 19 years, was later filmed giving a camera a 'thumbs up' as he left Western Cape Court.

Video footage from the court posted on social media by Times Live hears Parsons and Witbooi being asked in Afrikaans if they are sorry, to which Parsons responds that he is.

A fourth man, Nashville Julius, 29, was found guilty of kidnapping and robbing Ms Cornelius and Mr Marsh, News 24 reports.

Parsons had previously told the court during the trial that the quartet had only intended on stealing Ms Cornelius' car and that the incident spiralled after they saw the two students still inside.

The thugs who gang-raped and murdered South African student Hannah Cornelius have been jailed for life - sparking cheers in the court's public gallery.

Geraldo Parsons, 27, Vernon Witbooi, 33, and Eben van Niekerk, 28, were found guilty of Hannah's rape and murder, as well as the kidnap, robbery and attempted murder of her friend Cheslin Marsh last week.

All three career criminals were sentenced to two life terms each for Hannah's rape and murder at Western Cape High Court on Monday. Witbooi and Parsons were also both handed 25 years for attempted murder, 15 years each for four counts of robbery and 10 years for kidnapping.

Van Niekerk was also sentenced to 20 years for attempted murder, 20 years for robbery, 10 years for kidnapping Hannah and Cheslin, eight years for kidnapping another woman, Mimi October.

A fourth man, Nashville Julius, 29, was sentenced to 15 years for two counts of robbery and seven years for kidnapping. His sentence will run concurrently.

Judge Rosheni Allie delivered a scathing appraisal of the men on Monday, telling the court that none of them had showed 'true remorse' for their crimes, News 24 reports.

As she delivered their sentences, a large crowd of supporters in the public gallery erupted into cheers. They applauded, taunted the killers and chanted 'Justice!' as they were hauled back into their holding cells following the hearing.

I feel the same way about India.

Yeah we have a lot of problems here as women but in other places it is far worse.

I understand your POV. But a whole lot of this is 'normal' for them. If they don't have babies where they are, they don't get to be Mommies. Or rather Mummies, as it's said there. I know it seems incongruous, but the country is SO beautiful. The people are generally SO kind and humble, all races, not just the Blacks or just the Whites (or even what they used to refer to Asians and especially India Indians as, which was "Coloured") but everyone. Then again, you don't have the rape issues here and in other Western Countries that you do in SA. But here you have the far too vocal Hollywood types telling you how to live. Each place in the world has it's perks and it's decidedly NOT perks. All you can do is investigate and pray if you decide to move to a foreign locale either on a whim or for a job... ;)
