Police were first called to the Marshalls department store on 1800 Clements Bridge Road around 3:40 p.m. for a report of a shoplifting in progress. Police were also alerted that one of the shoplifting suspects was wanted in connection to a prior homicide.
When police arrived they spotted three suspects later identified as Raoul Gadson of Philadelphia, LaShanda Anderson, 36, of Philadelphia and Chanel Barnes, 27, of Philadelphia.

Police say Gadson was resisting with loss prevention agents from the store. As police approached, Gadson allegedly fled the scene on foot while Anderson and Barnes entered a rented Nissan Armada.
Police say they commanded Anderson to stop but she accelerated toward them. One of the officers, a patrol captain and 27-year veteran, was struck by the open driver-side door, police said. Anderson then allegedly tried to deliberately run over a second officer, a sergeant. The sergeant, a 17-year veteran, took out a gun and fired three shots, striking Anderson twice.

What could they possibly be stealing from a department store that's worth all that? If they'd went peacefully they might have only been banned from the store, but this way they guaranteed themselves some jail time, that's not including the dead one, of course.

Seriously, people? You can't imagine why there was a fuss, and Marshall's sucks?

One of the shoplifters was also wanted for a prior HOMICIDE (and responding police were told this fact).
Plus they were shoplifting.
Plus they were trying to flee the scene.
Plus, she was using her vehicle (a deadly weapon) to attack the police.

The response in this case seems reasonable to me.

All three suspects have long criminal records and a pattern of arrests for shoplifting. In October, the Delaware State Police put out a public message identifying [LeShanda] Anderson as part of a ring that had been stealing items from Marshalls [Craygor added link] ...

Anderson had been arrested more than 15 times over the last 18 years, repeatedly for shoplifting, but also for a series of far more serious offenses, including firearms violations and a charge of attempted murder.

.... February 2015, when Anderson allegedly had a confrontation with other women at a laundromat in the Nicetown section. A woman was shot in both legs in the episode. The attempted-murder charge was dismissed in 2016 as part of a plea bargain that had her pleading guilty to a minor charge and she was put on probation for five years.

It may come as a shock to some white people, but the police can kill you if you drive at them!

I am white and I was a (young) adult when I realized this, no lie

First thing my father taught when I was learning to drive. "You are in charge of a 3000lb killing machine"
Police have every right to shoot you if you are aiming a vehicle at them.

Was there a specific reason as to why he had to warn you about that??;)

She cleans up nicely....

Anderson's friends and neighbors in Philadelphia aren't buying that story, though.

They say she had turned her life around recently and was a great mother to her three kids.

(Damn girl, your hair is showing on Facebook. What's up with that? Not feeling too Muslimish today?)

Anderson and two others allegedly shoplifted more than $3,400 in merchandise from a Marshalls store in Deptford Township on Saturday afternoon. As they tried to leave, loss prevention officers intervened. While Raoul Gadson, 43, of Philadelphia, allegedly fought with a store employee, Anderson and Chanel Barnes, 38, ran for their vehicle.

As they tore out of the parking lot, with Anderson at the wheel, her open door struck one responding Deptford police officer and she headed straight for another, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office. The 17-year police veteran fired on the vehicle, hitting the driver twice.

Those who knew Anderson told NJ Advance Media the law enforcement narrative didn't sound like something she would do, and that they didn't know why she would have been shoplifting. "She was a beautiful person," said Juanita Tucker, a 62-year-old neighbor. Tucker said she had watched Anderson grow up on the same block in northwest Philadelphia with her daughter and another close friend.

(But yet....) Anderson has an extensive criminal record going back decades and was sought by Delaware police last year for a series of shoplifting incidents at Marshalls stores in that state.

While Tucker knew about Anderson's past criminal history (didn't you just say it's something she wouldn't do? Girl, you is crazy.) she denied it had anything to do with Saturday's incident. "She had changed. She's turned her whole life around," Tucker said. "I want to know: Why did it happen?" (Bad habits are hard to break? Just a guess.)

Tucker said she had not heard of or met Gadson or Barnes.

Others gathered Monday at the home where Anderson lived in Philadelphia expressed outrage at the shooting. They strung balloons to the porch and brought food, sitting in the sun to comfort one another.

"Since when do you get gunned down for shoplifting?" said a woman who did not give her name. (Bitch please. She tried to run down two cops. Don't let that little nugget of info get in the way of your "facts".)

Another woman, who said she was one of Anderson's life-long close friends, described the deceased as a wonderful, caring person who took care of three daughters as well as nieces and nephews, or the children of neighbors when they needed help. Anderson had organized a community toy drive to benefit a local day care, the woman said. (And I wonder where those toys came from.)

probation for shooting someone multiple times. The justice system is so fucked. Def helped this was a female. Disgraceful.

So are her accomplices going to be charged with murder as a result of her death? They are legally capable of throwing that at em right? Dead or caged is where these stains belong. Fucking filth.

Every single person showing support for this trash or outrage over her death need to be put to the fucking sword as well. Stains, all of em. Clean them off my planet please.

A Marshalls employee who confronted suspected shoplifters trying to flee the Deptford Township store June 9 told a dispatcher that one of them was wanted on a warrant for manslaughter.
[....]
The phone call is part of a redacted set of audio files released by Gloucester County on Monday afternoon in response to an Open Public Records Act requests.

The phone call answers the lingering question of how police learned one of the suspects was possibly a killer, but it doesn't explain where the store employee got this information.

No records have been revealed to show that any of the three were wanted on a warrant for manslaughter or homicide. The trio were known to Marshalls' personnel from previous thefts, according to prosecutors.

When reached for comment Monday about the Marshalls employee's call to the dispatcher, a spokeswoman said the company had no comment.
[....]
Two men and a woman allegedly tried to steal more than $3,400 in merchandise by concealing it in a suitcase and leaving the store.

The loss prevention employee called 911 to ask for police help and to provide descriptions of suspects trying to steal items. During that call, he claims one is wanted, but doesn't elaborate.

"One has a warrant for manslaughter," he tells the dispatcher. "I'm gonna need help stopping them."
[....]
"How do you know they're wanted for homicide," the dispatcher asks him, but she doesn't get an answer.

The dispatcher tries to learn more as the employee apparently begins chasing the suspects. Although the Marshalls' loss protection worker doesn't say which of the three has a warrant, the dispatcher assumes it's the man.

"He's advising me the male is wanted for homicide, but he's not cooperating with me," the dispatcher tells responding officers.

"Where are they? I have two cops in the parking lot," the dispatcher asks the Marshalls worker.

Shouting can be heard as the employee apparently struggles with the shoplifters.

"I see them. I'm pulling up," an officer tells the dispatcher.
[....]
One of the officers, Sgt. Kevin A. Clements, fired three rounds and two struck LaShanda Anderson, 36, of Philadelphia, as police say she drove toward the officer.

Also in the vehicle was Chanel Barnes, 38, of Philadelphia, who was charged with shoplifting. The third member of the group, Raoul Gadson, 43, was arrested days later in Philadelphia on charges of assault and robbery.
[....]
Anderson, Barnes and Gadson have criminal records. Anderson's extensive criminal history included an attempted murder charge in 2015 following a shooting at a Philadelphia laundromat.

Records show the attempted murder and weapons charges against her were dismissed after a mistrial. She received probation in that case after pleading guilty to possessing a criminal instrument.

So are they saying this is Marshall’s fault?

Its not Marshals fault ... Marshal was not driving. OMG, could you imagine being in that car ... one minute its an ordinary day of shoplifting, and then security and the chase is on ... and then the driver is dead. That's a full day crammed into three minutes. WOW!

I love marshals too ... <3

Why would anyone be responsible for this disaster except the known criminals who shoplifted as a career choice?
Just the way the article was written.

One has a warrant for manslaughter," he tells the dispatcher. "I'm gonna need help stopping them."

So the caller knew they are known criminals. I've called 911 on my own brother's friends and said "This person is well known to local deputies" and three cars responded. Because it's true. I am not exaggerating. Must protect myself and home.

I bet the employee made that up to get a quick response.
So that employee deserves to be charged with false reporting.

Back to the original story
.Police say they commanded Anderson to stop but she accelerated toward them.
This is what got her killed.
