I almost feel like apologizing for this story because it's so sad . . . and horrible at the same time. Someone went to a park in Chicago yesterday, presumably to enjoy being in the out of doors. They ended up finding a toddler's floating foot in the pond. They sensibly called the police, who went on to find another foot and a hand from a small child—all badly decomposed.

RIP tiny one, sorry this world was too brutal for you to survive. :(

Dozens of police officers were searching a lagoon on Chicago's West Side on Sunday where a toddler's decomposed feet and hand were found.

The search began after a person called 911 on Saturday afternoon to report seeing what turned out to be a toddler's left foot floating in the Garfield Park lagoon. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said officers subsequently discovered a right foot and a hand in the lagoon about 25 yards away. The remains were badly decomposed, he said.

Guglielmi said that as of late Sunday morning, the department's marine unit and divers hadn't found any additional body parts. He said other items of interest were found, but he declined to go into detail. He also said that depending on what searchers find, the lagoon might be drained to make sure there are no more remains in it.

Officers could be seen wading through cattail reeds and waist-high water on Sunday, feeling the bottom with their hands. Elsewhere, an officer was walking the perimeter of the lagoon and picking up items to put in a paper bag.

Investigators haven't determined the child's identity or how the child died, Guglielmi said. He said detectives were going through Chicago-area missing persons cases to determine if there could be a link to the remains.

There's just not anything you can say except how sad this is.

Poor little person, I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Omg I cannot imagine what those cops are going through right now. I mean, being completely horrified to take a step because you are very likely to step on a child...and that's what it supposed to happen! I don't think that is a part of a job that anyone can get used to...at least any person who is capable of having feelings could get used to. Of course i feel horrible for the poor baby too but I think the worst is over for him/her. I hope they figure out who the parents are quick and find out what the fuck that baby is doing decomposing in the water and make them answer for what they did!

Well, if there's someone to match it to. I mean, my DNA isn't registered. What are the odds mom or dad is registered?
I'm betting Grandma will be the one to eventually report the child missing, or maybe a noncustodial parent. If either of them does, there's a chance. Otherwise, you're probably right about them being out of luck on the DNA angle.

This kid would have grown up to murder someone, so...you know...it's not really all that tragic. You people need to look for the silver lining.

Feet and a hand?!?! I'm trying to grasp the fact that means someone probably cut the child up. GAG RIP little child, I'm so sorry.

This is horrific. It takes a someone with no soul or conscience to do this to a child. RIP little one.

Chicago police have released a sketch of a child whose dismembered remains were found in the Garfield Park Lagoon.

The drawing was distributed at a Thursday morning news conference at the lagoon, where police have been searching since a child's foot was found in the water Saturday afternoon.

Police released a sketch and said at a news conference Wednesday that the Cook County Sheriff's Department will need help from the public in identifying a child found in a lagoon. (WGN-TV)

The drawing was done by veteran sketch artist Tim McPhillips of the Cook County sheriff's office. McPhillips said he relied on photos, X-rays and a firsthand look at remains to make the drawing "as accurate as I can get it."

With help from the Cook County medical examiner's office, police have said the child appears to have been African-American and roughly 2 to 3 years old.

So far the head, feet and hands of the child have been recovered from the lagoon, but authorities say they are badly decomposed. Police are still searching for the torso and have begun draining the west side of the lagoon.

About 100 officers, detectives and divers are working the case, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Investigators are withholding some details because "only the person who did it is going to know certain things," Chicago police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said at the news conference.

McCarthy acknowledged that police have not ruled out that the child died by accident. "This could be a tragic case of somebody panicking and not knowing what to do," he said, still calling it "heinous."

Officials say the body was likely that of an African-American boy between 8 months and 4 years old. But they cautioned that a “mixed-race heritage” and the possibility the body is that of a girl cannot be ruled out. And the age could be closer to 2 to 3 years old.

"All the body parts appear to be from a child of approximately the same age," according to a statement from police and the medical examiner's office. "The hair was short, curly and black in color; the eyes were brown; and the earlobes were not pierced, suggesting the child may be male (but female gender cannot be ruled out at present)."

The first remains were discovered Saturday afternoon when someone called 911 to report a foot floating in the lagoon. It turned out to be the left foot of the child, according to authorities.

Police later found the child's other foot and both hands toward the north end of the lagoon about 25 yards away. A 20-pound weight was found nearby, authorities said. Late the next day, the child's head was discovered near where other body parts were found.

As the west lagoon is drained, detectives have widened their search.

Thursday morning, two patrol cars were parked on the east side of the lagoon, previously untouched. The once-open Central Park Avenue Bridge sidewalk, which separates and overlooks the east and west lagoons, was also taped off.

"We're checking the rest of the park to ensure that we didn't miss anything," said Steve Georgas, a deputy chief overseeing the search.

Police said they have been in contact with Gary authorities about a 2-year-old boy reported missing with his mother earlier this summer. Officials said they do not think the case is linked but have not ruled anything out.

The sketch artist said he was happy he to assist in Chicago police's effort to identify the child but said the case was difficult.

"I have two granddaughters," McPhillips said.

Anyone with information about missing children fitting the description is asked to contact Area North detectives at 312-744-8261, send a text to CRIMES (274637) or call 1-800-535-STOP.

Plus sea critters eating the flesh.
This is why I don't eat seafood. No fish, no cockroaches of the sea, I mean shrimp, no lobster. Carrion eaters. Blech

Was the sketch artist attempting to capture a deceased two year old or a wanted, hardened, baby thug?

From the link:
"Obviously, a toddler was found in Garfield Park and it's very similar in age to your son, do you think that's your son?" asks 13 News reporter Rebecca Klopf.

"That's not my son," Knox says.

She doesn't think the sketch of the toddler found in Chicago looks anything like Kyrian.

"Do you feel like something has happened to your son?" asks reporter Rebecca Klopf
"I don't know and I don't really want to speculate. I just want my baby to come home that's all I know," Knox says.
I know it's a reporters job to get the scoop, but I don't think I would ever be able to ask the mother of a missing baby 'don't you think that decapitated head looks alot like your son?' Jsmdh!

Wow just crazy that no one is claiming this poor baby to me it surely means the parents did it :(

These may not be new but at least it's news ?

"Chicago Police detectives confirmed Friday night that they had contacted Arkansas authorities about 2-year-old Malik Drummond, who went missing from his father's home in Searcy, Arkansas, in November 2014, according to the local ABC affiliate.

Police are also looking into the case of 2-year-old nephew King Walker, who went missing from Gary, Indiana, with his developmentally disabled aunt Diamond Bynum, 21, on July 25. Authorities believe she was spotted in Hammond in August, according to the NWI Times.

While police told ABC7 Tuesday that nothing linked the missing Gary toddler to the remains found in the lagoon, Area North Detectives told DNAinfo Chicago Friday that the Gary case remained part of the investigation."

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/09/02/gary-police-issue-silver-alert-for-missing-woman-toddler/

"Diamond Bynum, 21, and her 2-year-old nephew, King Walker, disappeared on July 25, after they apparently went for a walk. While there have been a number of reported sightings since, no AMBER alert was ever issued in the case.

On Wednesday, Gary police issued a Silver Alert, a public notification about a missing person, typically used when the person is elderly, or suffers from a mental disability.

...

Gary police have previously said they want to question a person of interest, identified as Terrance D. Williams, also known as Dollar.

Williams is approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 145 pounds. He is known to frequent the area of 2200 Georgia Street in Gary as well as the 800 block of Pennsylvania Street, police said.

Eugene Bynum said he was following up on a tip Wednesday, after someone claimed Diamond and King were seen in Hammond."

" "They're innocent," Eugene Bynum's wife, Susanne Bynum, said.

She said she believes that Diamond Bynum and King are with someone who is keeping close supervision over them and preventing them from communicating with family members."

Why not?

I understand that certain criteria must be met, generally a description of the abductor or abduction vehichle but since he disappeared with his aunt couldn't it be presumed that she is his abductor and issue an Amber Alert based on that?

I have been talking about this case another site now got a lot of crap for making fun of that sketch artist drawing but man it's just so bad. I mean seriously it looks like some demon baby. I get the kid was decomposed but I find it really hard to believe they could not have found a better artist.

Also with them not finding the torso after draining the entire lagoon I had a theory about possible organ theft but again I was chastised for it. Like dude, this is the inter webs lol I obviously have no life let me be!!! I hope we find his, true identity but even then there will be so many unanswered questions that remain...

I think it's because it's more complicated than that. It's entirely likely that his aunt is not the abductor, because she has Prader-Willi syndrome and is severely intellectually disabled, and functions roughly as well as a six-year-old. So, she would be another victim rather than an abductor; or, there was no crime and the two essentially wandered off together, got lost and couldn't find their way back. So instead of the Amber Alert, they used the silver alert, for elderly and disabled endangered missing.

It's entirely likely that his aunt is not the abductor,
I understand that and don't dispute that at all but my thought process was that an Amber Alert gets a fuck-ton more press than a Silver Alert.

Kind of like do whatever is necessary to find the child and his Aunt, makes more sense than sitting on their thumbs for however long it took them to get around to issuing the Silver Alert.
