Gruesome: The body of Nicole Sartell, pictured, was found in a home on Madrona Street in Atlanta, Georgia, December 19. Also found was the body of 33-year-old Heather Camp

[...]
discovery of the bodies of two women in an abandoned Atlanta house have police there searching for a possible serial killer.

Nicole Startell's remains were found 'badly decomposed' and stuffed inside a closet.
[...]
believe the 31-year-old was killed months ago.

Heather Camp's body was discovered tucked under a sheet.
[...]
33-year-old had only been dead a few days when officers found her.

Both slayings are believed to have taken place inside the home, which is reportedly used by squatters.

The killings have also been described as 'definitely connected' by an Atlanta police captain,
[...]
Authorities first found Camp's body hidden by a sheet in a bedroom - and Sartell's stashed in the bedroom closet as police executed a search warrant
[...]
Sartell disappeared in August and the closet containing her body was nailed closed
[...]
Both slain women were later identified by the medical examiner's office,
[...]
A neighbor of Sartell named Charles Freeman told
[...]
'I put out posters on her with a reward with anybody that knows her whereabouts and we never had heard anything.'

'I wish I knew for sure if it was [Sartell] because it would ease my heart,' he also said at the time. 'She was like my daughter and I loved her very much.'

Another neighbor, Larry Powers, told
[...]
of the house 'Unfortunately there's a lot of wrong activity over there and the door won't lock. It's basically easy for people to come in and out.'

At the time, Capt. Paul Guerrucci with the Atlanta Police Department told
[...]
'The body [found inside the closet] was badly decomposed, but the house, in general, was not in good order.

'There appears to be people living in the house. There's no running water or electricity, so it looks like they might be squatting in the house.'
[...]
2014 'police have been called to the house 14 times for prostitution, drugs and fighting.'
[...]
Guerrucci said 'We're still in the beginning stages. We can't rule out anything, but they're definitely connected, because they're in the same house, so that's highly probable.'

The murders took place inside the home, he also said.

Camp's body was inside the Madrona Street home for a few days,
[...]
Pastor Juanita Shorter told
[...]
that both Sartell and Camp had attended services at True Church of God Outreach Ministry.

'I had this feeling... that was my God baby [Sartell] in the closet,'

If cities were more proactive in cleaning up high crime areas like these abandoned houses seem to be shit like this wouldn't happen.
A murder investigation is a lot more expensive than tearing down a house or rehabbing it for future sale.

they are really starting too tear them down in Detr because kids walking to school are getting dragged in and raped in them
an 11yo was dragged into one and raped at gun point last week and the Detr 300 are going door to door and these are massive men and no one says no to them coming and looking looking through the homes
they are the ones that have caught the last 5 - 10 guys that raped 100 year old ladies and little kids
as long as they dont go above the law the Detr cops have been letting them do what they need to because like I said they have been catching the rapists
but the program in Detr is called Blight Busters

They do something really neat to prevent squatting here. If you squat long enough here, you own the building pretty much free and clear regardless of who actually owns the title for it. When I first moved here I walked by a semi boarded up school and noticed what appeared to be someone living there. Apparently they have/had a problem with people squatting in offices and schools and such and they came up with a program to prevent it.

Basically they rent the buildings for pennies, the person who rents gets to play guard duty and keep any potential vagrants and trouble makers away while getting a huge place to call home while paying almost nothing.

I'm not sure if they do private houses too but I do recall one country over here (maybe the UK? @ScarletHarlot ), that was starting a program of fixing and cheaply renting abandoned houses to those in need. The cities considered it better to fix the houses and make almost no rent off it, and have them lived in and taken care of, than to let them fall into such disrepair that they had to be condemned.

I think all cities should take that approach with abandoned houses, if they aren't fixable, rip them down asap, if they are fixable, they should take ownership, repair and rent to those in need. Kill two birds with one stone :)

ETA: Found an article about it. It was the UK, apparently they have taken a few strategies to get rid of run down places. The one I mentioned and I found another were they basically gave houses away complete with a 30,000 low interest loan for as little as 1 pound.

They both attended the same church and died in the same house and were murdered. They even have a lot of the same characteristics. Could be a serial killer or maybe a pimp or drug dealer issues. Regardless they need to be caught ASAP!

So glad the closet door was NAILED shut...So glad I'm getting the impression that this weirdo didn't show his next victim the body in the closet. That would be so fucked! This is me hoping she had no idea that body was there.

I wonder if the squatters will cause issues as far as forensics and evidence? That's an awful lot of DNA to sort through, and I'm sure most of them are gonna have some kind of criminal history. I hope these ladies receive justice, and that no others join them.

The law of possession near one of my areas is a person who squats can only get possession IF; 1) they've resided in the property for a certain length of time (several years - I don't know the exact number), 2) recieved mail at the address, 3) have made an effort at improving the site. Someone I know very well for an entire - beautiful - brownstone that way. He worked his ass off, and the neighbours really appreciated what he did (though, understandably, at first, not knowing anything, they were apprehensive, until they saw he really cared. Then they helped him).

I also know - from a 'dark period' I went through - having stayed in one (when it was below freezing), I stayed with some people I knew in an abandoned townhouse, and in the same house were others - different groups on each floor. I didn't see much (no electricity), but, the home was utterly cluttered with shite (garbage, not body waste), and it would've been a terrific place...had not someone I know accidentally...burnt it (the person nodded off, and accidentally lit the place).

Theres a First 48 episode about these murders and it is creepy as shit.
They didnt even know there was a second body until they were getting ready to leave and realized they hadnt checked the closet that was nailed shut.
The house that these women were found in was worse than a flop house.
Drugs can kill in more ways than one.
