A toddler who was found wandering around a Florida neighborhood in a soiled diaper and without shoes over the weekend has still not been claimed by a parent or guardian, police said Monday morning.

According to officers from the Miramar Police Department said the child was discovered on Sunday morning.

Since then, police officers have worked to locate the parents of the toddler, who is believed to be about two or three years old.

Authorities said officers have been going door-to-door in a bid to locate someone who may know the toddler or his parents are.

According to WPLG, a woman found the toddler and walked over to her neighbor's home.

Lori Rodriguez said her neighbor thought that she may have known who the little boy belonged to.

Rodriguez took the child in, changed his diaper and called local police.

She told the station that aside from his diaper being soiled, the toddler looked like he was in good health.

The toddler is now in the custody of Child Protective Services as police continue their investigation.

The family tree for this one is confusing. Dannylee is Kamdyn’s biological father but he is not named on the birth certificate. Levi Arnold was dating Leila when she was pregnant, and he is named on Kamdyn’s birth certificate. We believe Kamdyn also took his last name and – Kamdyn Arnold.

I'm hoping Mom is found and is safe. My mind immediately went to a scenario that happened to a friend of a friend a few years ago. My 'friend's' toddler granddaughter was outside in front of the house for a while, which neighbors thought was strange. They investigated and found out that the tot's mom had OD'd and was dead in bed. :(

Baby's name is Kamdyn Cavett and his mother's name is Leila Cavett. They lived in Atlanta, Georgia before the kid suddenly turned up in South Florida.

Baby's aunts (sisters of the mother) drove from Alabama to Florida to pick up the baby. Nobody knows where the hell the mother is and the mother isn't known to have had any contacts in that area. All are confused.

The mother's only 21, looks young and somehow naive as fuck in the pic, like a schoolgirl or someshit.

On Wednesday evening, the Hollywood police announced that Cavett’s white truck had been found in its jurisdiction. Cavett was not in the truck but there may have been a possible sighting of her near Hollywood Boulevard and US Route 441. Authorities have not confirmed when she was possibly seen.

“Miramar Police received information that Leila Cavett had recently traveled to Florida from Alabama, and that her last known location was possibly in the area of Hollywood Boulevard and US 441. Additionally, Miramar Police located Ms. Cavett’s vehicle in Hollywood’s jurisdiction,” Hollywood police said in a statement.

Meanwhile, 35-year-old Daniel Lee West, a man who says he is the biological father of Kamdyn, told the Miami Herald that he wants to get his son from foster care, but was told he had to first establish paternity.

“CPS [the Florida Department of Children and Families] is supposed to tell me what to do. I am coming there as soon as they do,” West told the outlet.

He may possibly have to take a DNA test, something West is apparently willing to do to get his son back.

West said he is not in a relationship with Cavett but has been in Kamdyn’s life and sends them money twice a month.
“We were never together; it was just a hookup. Our relationship was about Kamdyn only.”
Cavett stands 5-feet-4-inches tall and weighs around 120 pounds. She has a tattoo on her inner right arm that reads, “Kamdyn,” in cursive and a small tattoo of a “Jesus fish” on her right wrist.

Baby is reported to be 2. Mother is reported to be 21.

So that was 32+ or so <getting down with> 18+ or so

heh

good that he was there for the baby and wants it. This situation seems that it could have some complexity, especially considering the young age of the mom and at 21 a lot of that-age girls still want to run around and play and such, complicating things for the kid.

Looked in google street view. There is an adult movie store right on the corner. There is a 7-11 with a gas station behind it, 1 - 2 bars just, around there. Sort of wide-laid-out commercial-ish area. Maybe it could be called seedy.

Just saw an ABC news report that was very vague. That Florida police have made contact with mom and she’s not “missing” and did not leave under “mysterious circumstances”. I dunno, leaving your kid to wander around a strange town is pretty darn mysterious. I saw this on another FB crime website that I’m not sure I’m allowed to post here. I’m on a week vacation and I am on a true crime binge!

Soooo, I guess the news was not true! They did not find and make contact with her. It was the ABC affiliate from her town in Georgia that reported the story. The Florida cops put out a statement saying it was NOT true! That she is still very much missing! Crazy! I think there was another case last week where someone was reported found, but in fact were not? People are getting some strange kick out of messing up investigations.

Last week, the FBI announced they have stepped in to assist the Hollywood Police Department in the search.

“The FBI is involved in the investigation working alongside local law enforcement,” Public Affairs Specialist for FBI Miami Jim Marshall confirmed to Dateline.

Family members are working with investigators to gain access to Leila’s social media accounts for clues on her disappearance. They have also hired an attorney, who has published updates on his Facebook Page. Requests for comment from the attorney were not returned as of Monday.

Leila’s family is pleading with the community to keep an eye out for her and call police with any information.

Leila is described as being 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing about 110 pounds. She has brown, shoulder-length hair and brown eyes. She has a tattoo that reads “Kamdyn” on her right arm and a small tattoo of a Christian fish symbol on her right wrist.

Anyone who may have information on Leila’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Hollywood Police Department at (954) 764-4357 or 954-967-4411. Tips can be emailed or texted to hollywoodpdtips@hollywoodfl.org. You can also contact the Broward Crime Stoppers at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.

I sadly believe she is dead. Every missing mother always ends up the same. Dead.

Definitely possible. 3 weeks is a long time, usually it is bodies that are this quiet and unnoticed.

There's more info now

Additional picture, and surveillance photo from the Racetrac gas station right next to where the truck was found, plus a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Vero Beach, Florida from evening of July 24 (2 days before disappearance):

Day of disappearance, she got into what looks like a white or silver Lexus sedan with a sunroof and tinted windows:

A man has been arrested in the case of missing mom Leila Cavett

A man who was questioned in the case of the missing mom Leila Cavett is sitting in a Broward jail on the charge of lying to federal officers.

Shanon Ryan, 38, was arrested by federal agents on Saturday, according to court records. He’s currently being held in the Broward jail without bond.

Cavett, 21, was last seen on July 25 after traveling from Georgia to Fort Lauderdale. Her 2-year-old son Kamdyn was found wandering the streets alone in Miramar the following day.

The case has grown into a full-blown FBI investigation, with investigators examining surveillance footage and cellphone tower data to retrace her steps, in addition to police using bloodhounds for searches.

A spokesman for the FBI did not immediately respond to requests for comment. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Marshals Service said Sunday that agency was not involved in Ryan’s arrest.

Ryan’s recent Facebook activity includes a number of posts discussing the case in vague and sometimes mysterious ways. Many of the posts allude to witchcraft and new age spirituality, but some address the FBI and their apparent investigation into Cavett and Ryan’s alleged connection to her.

On Aug. 6, Ryan posted two photos, apparently of police officers or federal agents in plainclothes searching a silver Lexus sedan. In one of the photos, a truck, matching the description of Cavett’s vehicle provided by Hollywood Police, is seen in the background with a door open.

On social media he says he has been questioned by police who don’t have anything to go on.

In some cases, he seems to be goading the FBI, telling agents — and anyone else who seems to think he has something to do with Cavetts’s disappearance — where they can find him.

“If you think I am guilty, come get me,” he said in the Facebook Live post on Aug. 13. “Know what energy you are playing with.”

A week earlier, Ryan claimed to be in Tennessee and on his way back to Florida when he posted a 51-minute video on YouTube. In the video he claims he took Cavett into his home when he was living in Alabama. He described her as a young woman with risky behavior who played men and used her son as a shield from them. He said it was common for her to go off with strangers.

Ryan said he and Cavett reconnected recently when she decided to come to Florida to assist him as his apprentice was hospitalized. He said when she arrived they smoked some weed, went to The Cheesecake Factory and then drove around. He said a car pulled up and someone in the vehicle asked her if she partied. He said Cavett left with the people in the car.

In the video, Ryan appears very animated. At times he rocks back forth. Other times he flails his arms. On occasion he punctuated each word very vividly.

He says he knows the FBI is investigating him. “I know they are trying to make a connection of me to her,” he says. “… You are going to find you wasted your mother [expletive deleted] time when you could have been looking for her. "

Ryan then attempts to hold many people to task including Cavette’s family and an army of followers on social media who have joined Facebook groups in an attempt to help find the missing mom.

He questioned how Cavett could really be missing when she was largely considered homeless and why people didn’t want to help her then.

“You don’t see the work I do every day,” he said. “You don’t see the energy I put in. "

In the same video, Ryan says he is being made to look guilty by others on social media because of his past criminal history. Court records show he was convicted of a 2012 burglary in Alabama. He also said in the video that he sold drugs when he was younger.

Ryan’s Facebook profile lists him as the owner and founder of Magnetic Kundalini, a business described on its page as “witchcraft, knowledge of self, kemetic kundalini and chakra meditation, kemetic science, health, wellness, fitness, mentorship.”

Investigators said Ryan had been using a debit card to buy extra-strength odor eliminator, extra-large garbage bags and duct tape at the gas station and a Walmart store, court document show.

A federal search warrant executed on Ryan’s phone shows that he had made various Google searches, including
“What day does commercial garbage pickup for Hollywood, Florida?” and “Does bleach and alcohol make chloroform?”

Law enforcement also recovered shovels with small droplets of a red substance on them. The complaint also said several employee at the gas station were interviewed by investigators. One recognized Ryan, and had seen him near the trash bin. Another employee remembered seeing women’s clothing and children’s toys in the trash and recognized a pair of floral pants worn by Cavett, the complaint said.

In video footage obtained by law enforcement, Ryan was spotted parking his vehicle near the trash bin on July 26.

In a rambling 51-minute video posted on Facebook Aug. 9, a man who appears to be Ryan says he was the last person to see Cavett, adding that he had helped her at a time she was homeless.
“We have a missing woman, and I gave the police everything that I know,” he says in the video.
