OAKLAND PARK, Fla. — Officials say a man driving a sports car was killed while trying to beat a train at a railroad crossing.

News outlets reports that the crash between the Maserati and the Brightline train occurred Thursday morning in Oakland Park. The train dragged the car several blocks before coming to a stop.

Oakland Park Fire Rescue spokesman David Rafter says it appears the Maserati driver went around the guard gates to beat a freight train and didn't realize the Brightline train was approaching from the other direction.

No sympathy here, You simply can't fix stupid. We put up Signs, Flashing lights, Speakers that go ding ding ding ding, Gates that Drop down etc, what more can we do apart from holding the man hostage at gun point till the train passes to keep idiots from crossing the tracks while a train is approaching? See this shit in my home town yearly being a city that was build around a train hub. Mother nature purging at her best.

UPDATED STORY:
The Broward County Sheriff's Office said in a Friday statement that 46-year-old Clivet Romero was killed when his Maserati was struck by a Brightline train Thursday in Oakland Park. The 2014 Maserati's rear was wedged under the train and burst into flames.

And now I have Joe Walsh stuck in my head....

The yellow is the pee that the dude had just enough time to release when he saw the train.
This asshole just fucked up a ton of peoples lives by being an entitled little pussy. Instead of waiting for the train and getting where he was going, he now has easily 100 people that will need therapy

I too, used to live near a railroad yard. And I'd see the same thing, among other acts of insanity and stupidity. I still get horns honked, and the Middle finger waved, simply because I wait for the gates to go all the way up, and the lights to stop flashing. Then I look both ways before going over the crossing. And I will never change that.

And his beneficiaries all cheered.
Does that get double indemnity for being accidental?! ;) How the bloody hell do you miss that big bright ass headlight in the distance to determine which direction the freak’n train is coming from?! We have lights and bells - no fancy guard arms that block the tracks.. it’s called..roll your window down and listen if the damn things are blinking.. my ass is sitting and listening.. no proceed with minor discretion.. idiot

I believe his view was being blocked by the train he was trying so desperately to beat, and noise from "his" train might've made it hard to hear the approaching one. This can even happen when one train is just sitting on the tracks and people cross in vehicles or on foot and don't realize there might be another train on the other track(s). Either way, I'm very cautious around huge powerful vehicles because you can't afford to make a stupid mistake.
