PRATTVILLE — An Autauga County woman was strangled, beaten to death and stomped on by the man accused of killing her Sunday afternoon, records show.

Cynthia Harmon Waldroup, 61, was killed during an apparent domestic dispute, said Sheriff Joe Sedinger. James Warren Thomas Jr., 54, of the 1400 block of County Road 161, Marbury, is charged with murder in the case, court records show. Thomas remained in the Autauga Metro Jail Monday on a $150,000 cash bond, jail records show.

The autopsy report shows Waldroup died from strangulation and multiple “blunt force” trauma injuries.

Thomas admitted to deputies who arrived at his home while answering a fight in progress call that he killed Waldroup, courthouse records show. He was found “covered in blood,” and admitted to stomping Waldroup with his “bare feet,” records show.

The two had an on again, off again dating relationship, records show. Booth is taking a request to raise Thomas’ bond under advisement.

“We ask for a substantial increase in bond, while retaining the cash only stipulation,” Sarah Speakes, an assistant district attorney asked Booth. “The nature of the crime judge, the level of violence, we certainly feel that Mr. Thomas is a threat to the community.”

Thomas appeared before Booth wearing blaze orange jail garb, restrained in handcuffs. He seemed subdued, answering Booth’s questions with a “Yes ma’am,” or “No ma’am.” He was convicted by Booth in 2018 on a domestic violence charge where Waldroup was the victim. He served 90 days on the charge, and there may still be some of the sentence pending.

Booth asked Thomas his financial situation since she is considering raising the bond. He told her he was declared to be disabled five years ago, because he had blackouts and seizures. Before being declared disabled, he was a bricklayer, he told Booth. He receives a disability check of $1,100 a month and has monthly expenses of about $700, he told her. He rents his home and doesn’t have a vehicle, he said.

Deputies arrived at the scene on County Road 161 about 1 p.m. and detained Thomas, Sedinger said. They found Waldroup’s body in the home, he said.

Previously, "The court also ordered him to take classes while incarcerated. Thomas completed anger management, domestic violence, stress management and values clarification classes while in prison, records show."

Ya think he failed those classes?
