The principal of a Florida high school allegedly refused to say the Holocaust actually happened because "not everyone believes" the historical event — in which more than six million people were murdered — actually happened.

William Latson, principal of Spanish River High School in Boca Raton, told a student's mother via email in April 2018 he was not allowed to say whether the Holocaust occurred because of his employment with the School District of Palm Beach County.

"I can't say the Holocaust is a factual, historical event because I am not in a position to do so as a school district employee," Latson wrote in an email, later published by The Palm Beach Post.

"Not everyone believes the Holocaust happened and you have your thoughts but we are a public school and not all of our parents have the same beliefs so they will react differently, my thoughts or beliefs have nothing to do with this because I am a public servant," the principal said. "I have the role to be politically neutral but support all groups in the school."

Latson added: "I do allow information about the Holocaust to be presented and allow students and parents to make decisions about it accordingly." He said he does the "same with information about slavery."

He probably says the same regarding flat earth and the moon landings.

The district said Latson made a grave error in judgment and, out of an abundance of concern and respect for students and staff, reassigned him to a district position. [I hope it is a janitor position.]

"The School Board of Palm Beach County is, and always has been, committed to teaching all students, in every grade level, a historically accurate Holocaust curriculum; one which leaves no room for erroneous revisions of fact or the purge of anti-Semitism," wrote School Board Chairman Frank A. Barbieri, Jr.

I wonder if that slavery remark was to distract and deflect from his real feeling, which is straight up anti-semitism?

Look, we all know that those Auschwitz pictures are photoshopped. Joseph Goebbels briefly hijacked Nikola Tesla's flying time machine, came to the present, stole some laptops, then went home and created the death camp pictures as a joke. That's also when he created the "OMGWTFBBQ" meme.

Unfortunately, Hermann Goering later used one of those laptops to found LiveJournal so he had an outlet for his godawful emo poetry. He used to insist on reading his poetry aloud at cabinet meetings until Hitler gave him a wedgie so powerful that it required seven hours of surgery to dislodge his underwear from his buttocks.

I just hate to have that subset teaching kids

I don't disagree. Every day I am more and more glad that I don't have kids.

I was in the FL school system years ago, and thankfully the Holocaust was on the agenda and taught as fact.

Didn't however learn about the US's own fuckery (eugenics, Tuskegee experiments etc) until post-graduation.

I was fortunate to land in a team teaching history class in HS that was taught by two well-informed teachers. I doubt they would get away with going against the grain like they did back then. They pretty much destroyed most of the tripe we'd been fed up to then.

They even set up a stock market that we invested in. There was a trading floor and the whole nine yards. I think that one rather discouraged me from getting involved with the real thing though, because I lost my play money.

Personally, I think he has a point. He wasn't there to witness it. All he knows is what he's been told. I have to assume he knows there is a huge difference between the "history" in school text books and actual events of the past.

Most people would call that 'creatively hedging your bets'.

I read long ago about some hardcore christians pulling the same thing. When asked about any of the events portrayed in the bible, they absolutely believe it 100% despite their previous argument. <<<facepalm>>>

A high school principal in Florida who said that he couldn’t say the Holocaust was a “factual, historical event” was fired from his school district on Wednesday, a report said.

Principal William Latson, who was head of a school in Palm Beach County, was officially canned from his job after being reassigned in July, CNN reported.

The county school board voted 5-2 to terminate Latson Wednesday after finding “just cause” that he violated ethics protocol, according to the report.

The district criticized Latson for not promptly responding to county officials as news of his comments gained nationwide attention, CNN reported.

“While his email was receiving global news coverage, Mr. Latson failed to respond to communications from his supervisors and failed to assist the District in addressing the serious disruption caused by the aforementioned email and news coverage,” the county said in a statement.

Well, this in interesting......

Florida high school principal who was fired for refusing to say the Holocaust was a 'factual, historical event' in an email to a parent is REHIRED and handed $150k in backpay
A Florida high school principal fired last year after he refused to say the Holocaust was a ‘factual, historical event’ has been rehired and issued $152,000 in back pay.

The decision to rehire and compensate former Spanish River Community High School Principal William Latson came following a 4-3 vote by the Palm Beach County School Board on Wednesday.

Latson was fired in October last year when emails he sent to a student’s mother surfaced, in which he said that the mass slaughter of six million Jews is a ‘belief’ that children at the school won’t be ‘forced’ to learn.

What the entire fuck? Gee, not reinforcing ignorant and borderline Nazi ideals much, are we? Still betting dollars to donuts that Jews won't stage any protests or vandalize businesses.
