JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - A Jonesboro woman ended up in the doctor’s office on July 4 after a “bandit” bit her on the leg.

The 50-year-old woman told Officer Ashley Jackson she was outside in her yard on Tanglewood Drive the other night when she saw three raccoons rummaging through her trash can.

The woman said she “started to talk and ‘click’ to the raccoons,” the initial incident report.

One of the animals approached her and bit her on the right leg, just below the knee.

Thursday morning, the woman went to a local urgent care for treatment for two puncture wounds and bruising.

Jackson reportedly advised the woman about the behavior of raccoons, “and further explained it is best not to approach a wild animal, especially while they’re scavenging for food.”

According to the Humane Society of the United States, raccoons are considered a “primary carrier of the rabies virus.”

A round of rabies vaccine is fucking expensive. Where I use to live animal bites were so common that transporting that vaccine was a common deal. Funny shit was when a new NP started in the market they had to get educated on how to administer it because its so uncommon in most places.

I think Rocket Raccoon was trying to tell her that didn't want to be interrupted during his dining experience. In other words, back off bitch, MINE!

And really, what person who lives in the country doesn't know you don't mess wild animals, especially raccoons and possums because they are the biggest carriers of rabies.

Strapped with bungie cords! Better yet, keep the garbage can in a shed.
I keep my dry cat food in a large garbage can secured with a bungie cord. It was getting low and a raccoon tipped it over and drug the can several feet, but he couldn't get the lid off.
They're probably cursing evolution or whatever higher power for not giving them opposable thumbs...and the ability to curse said higher power.

They're certainly smart enough for this to be plausible, IMO. ;)
Here, they're permit only pets, and you must have the permit before you can buy one as a pet.
I've had several friends who've had pet raccoons, and those creatures never ceased to amaze me with their intelligence and memory capabilities.
The only problems with them as pets is that the males can occasionally grow too big for children or petite women to handle or play with without the man in the family nearby, although this is less common if you check on parentage and previous litter's full growth size from the breeder (only 1 of my friends experienced this).
The other issue is that once they're past the 9 months -1 year age, they become more nocturnal, and if not kept crated at night, will roam the house and get into whatever they can, and not just food stuffs, but closets, drawers, even jewelry boxes - and the little kleptos loves them some shiny stuff and sooper seekret hidey holes!
You've also got to be very clever with the crate locks, and not use something simple that they can watch what you do and then reverse/copy it to escape and go on a nightly cruise through house - just like several parrots, I've also known 2 raccoons named "Houdini" for their talent of unlocking their cages, and opening/unscrewing all sorts of items.
