GOLDEN, Colo. — Two sex offenders with gang affiliations escaped from the Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center, which was the site of a riot last week, on Monday morning, the Golden Police Department said.

Javier Madera, 19, is described as Hispanic, 5-foot-10 and 147 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes, and a skull tattoo on his right forearm.

He is a sex offender and has gang affiliations, police said. His last known address was in Commerce City.

Emilio Dominguez, 17, is described as Hispanic, 5-foot-9 and 182 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

He has the word “King” tattooed on his right hand, and he has a tattoo of roses and “Dominguez” on his right arm.

He is a violent sex offender with gang affiliations and he also has been charged with witness victim intimidation. His parents live in Denver.

Police said a guard last saw the two, who are roommates at the facility, between midnight and 1 a.m. The guard let one of them use a restroom.

A Golden police officer did a routine perimeter check about 2:20 a.m. and did not report seeing anything unusual.

During another routine check three hours later, the officer saw a dumpster turned on its side and sheets hanging out of a window on the second floor. A window was also broken out.

Anyone who sees the two or has information is asked to not approach them and instead call 911.
....

Lookout Mountain is having some serious issues lately. Last week there was a riot, now 2 inmates have escaped, and Thursday employees were dismissed while they investigate supplying inmates with drugs. What s shitshow.

Why was a 19 year old being kept in a detention center for juveniles? Over 18, should go to adult prison.

Curious if this was some alternative sentencing rehabiliatative type of nonsense for youthful offenders or if they were merely waiting their time to serve their real sentence.

That was going to be my question, as well. 19 is not a juvenile, and even a 17 year old facing those types of charges should be tried in grown-up court.
what a joke.

Depends on their age at the time of the crimes; many serious offenders who are sent to max-sec juvenile facilities and who's sentencing will extend beyond their juvenile years aren't sent to adult facilities until they reach age 21.
Other's may have their sentencing end at age 21, and those are also usually kept at the same juvenile facilities at which they've served most of their time.

It's doesn't usually make any sense to the public, but this is how many states handle such situations.

I wonder if this will bump their crimes up to adult sentencing. Obviously any new charges will be adult charges, but I wonder if whatever they were previously incarcerated for will be reexamined.

Does prison escape affect your original sentence, or do you just get a new sentence tacked on for escape? Not sure how to even Google this properly.

It's a bit of a catch 22. Juvenile centers are very different to adult prison. On one hand as a teenager it sounds like he did something awful and got locked up. But putting a kid like that into prison will likely make him worse/worse for society when he gets out.

Let's have a round of applause for the awesome security personnel who let this happen.

That's why you dont let em out.

There is no coming back from a violent sexual crime though, no matter the age it occurred. 14 year old rapes a woman, that's it, that kid will ALWAYS pose a threat.

Sickening these sub-breeds arent caged till they die.
