An Oklahoma teenager claims he shot and killed his parents because they had been communicating with him telepathically and were Satan worshipers, according to an affidavit released Tuesday.

Michael Elijah Walker, 19, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder after his parents were found dead early Monday morning inside their home in Edmond, CBS affiliate KWTV reported.

Michael Logan Walker, 50, and Rachael May Walker, 44, died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Walker’s 17-year-old brother told police he woke up to the sound of gunfire and saw his mother in the hallway telling him to call 911. He said he called police and then saw his brother walking down the hallway holding a gun. The boy said his brother often carries the gun around the house with him because “he is paranoid,” according to the affidavit.

The boy also said his older brother told him that he “shot their parents because they were sending him messages telepathically and they were Satan worshipers,” and “that everything was OK, and he would bury the bodies.”

Trust me, I get all of the pro-gun arguments. I really do. Even though I love living in a place where if you aren't a drug dealer, a cop, or in the mafia the chances of being shot are zero.

But to keep guns in the house when you have an obviously mentally ill teenager roaming around? It's hard to call this a case of anything other than Darwin's law in action.

You're right. One cannot placate the mentally ill with guns, thinking they will improve if given the right hobby. He reminds me of Adam Lanza, the 'special' kid who's mom let him develop a fascination with guns because she could break through his shell and bond over that activity. Walker's parents should have known better but they took the easy road and let him play with his deadly security blanket.

I imagine Australia is similar to Canada regarding guns? We have them (and plenty), but licensing is intensive and there isn’t a need for them unless for what you’ve mentioned. And hunting, which is moderated to hell and back.

I will never understand the psychology behind gun ownership. It’s so socially ingrained into the American psyche that it will never change; and coupled with mental health stigma, nothing will become of these tragedies we keep reading about. All of this is nothing more than a byproduct of American culture. It prizes the rights of the individual over the rights of a people. If we don’t worry about each other, how can we worry about ourselves?

But I’m a bleeding-heart egalitarian with Canadian-French citizenship, a daughter of East German and Russian parents...so, I’m basically a filthy socialist. With that being said, I have zero sympathy. I still love Americans. But I completely detach from gun stories because the irrationality behind gun ownership is too mind-boggling for me to comprehend.

Most Americans value our lives more than the right to mow down 50+ innocents at a music festival. It’s the extremists brainwashed by Fox News and the NRA who are standing in the way of common sense gun control.

Oh, certainly! I don’t disagree! But as you said, media and the money/Russia don’t make change easy, especially if some fringe narrative of “gun control attacks your rights” is reinforced ad nauseum. Plus, come on, the country was sort of founded by folks with an intense persecution complex. And constitutional originalism plagues American jurisprudence. (These are all just blanket statements; I’d be happy to hop over you Three Things if anyone wants to have this conversation.)

Sounds like a textbook Schizophrenia on this one.
I'm totally done with schizophrenics. I wish we as a society could recognize they can't be cured and they can't be controlled. I wish we could make the tough call and either lock them up or put them down. To many family members, neighbors, first responders, and strangers are attack and killed by schizophrenics that either won't take their medication or medication is ineffective to them. Cruel? I can agree with that, but I rather see schizophrenic that can't control their actions removed from society than to see fully functional, contributing members of our society assaulted, injured or killed by them. I believe that is crueler.

Yes, that really is the crux of the dilemma. And, of course, so much potential for abuse, but the casualties would probably still be far less than we see now trying to protect the schizophrenics. Clearly, though, we're moving away from the final solution totally, and no one is looking for a compromise other than incarceration/confinement for life but no one is looking to build the needed facilities either. So, I guess they'll continue to live among us.

These parents are fucking idiots. Just glad their ignorance didnt bring harm on the innocent brother.

Wonder if they were nutter super christian homeschooler types. Could just be standard run of the mill Oklahoma hick trash types(explains the letting a CHILD walk around waving a gun around).

Update...y'all calm down, he didn't do it :penguin:

they need to put him in with Juan, diminished capacity etc so on doesn't cut it, I personally will not only put money on his books but bring him the best tasting food he's ever had in his life if there is an unfortunate event in the cell, like the last times

"He's very mentally ill, and even at this point it's difficult even for us to get through to him in any of our meetings," Chance said.

No shit, cuz he's a fucking alien! Look at that face and tell me he is of this world! He came out of a pod.

The son accused of shooting and killing his mother and father in their Edmond home earlier this year was found not competent to stand trial.

On Wednesday, a judge ordered 19-year-old Michael Elijah Walker into the custody of the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

He was found not competent and will not stand trial in the deaths of his parents.

Walker is accused of shooting and killing his parents in their Edmond home back in March.

His folks were awful telepaths to not know he was going to off them.
Wonder if they will discover he was abused and snapped.
