The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office reports that 11-year-old Amberly Barnett was found deceased Saturday morning.

At approximately 2 a.m. this morning, the sheriff’s office released a missing person’s report for Barnett who disappeared in the Mount Vernon area. Barnett was reported to be last seen at a family member’s residence.

At 11 a.m., Sheriff Nick Welden announced they had suspended the search and would be holding a press conference at 1 p.m.

During the first press conference, Welden said the department was originally called about Barnett’s disappearance at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night. The search throughout the county and into Georgia continued through last night and into this morning, before it was suspended at 11 a.m.

At 3 p.m. Welden held a second conference to announce the body of the missing child had been located, but they were limited on the details they could release to the public.

“At approximately 6:30 a.m. this morning, the deceased body of 11-year-old Amberly Alexis Barnett was located,” Welden said. “Due to the current investigation, we are limited on the information that we are able to release.”

Welden said the department hopes to find answers for Barnett’s family soon.

“I can tell you that we are diligently, diligently pursuing different avenues, and Lord willing, we will have answers in the coming days. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as we move forward in this tragic event.”

11-year-old girl murdered, left in woods; man in custody

A man is facing a capital murder charge after an 11-year-old Georgia girl was killed and left in the woods behind his Alabama home, officials said.

Amberly Barnett was last seen alive on Friday at her aunt's house in DeKalb County, Alabama, reported ABC Atlanta affiliate WSB-TV.

Her body was found Saturday in a wooded area about 200 yards behind the home of suspected killer Christopher Madison, DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said at a Monday news conference.

Amberly died from strangulation, preliminary results showed, according to Welden.

Madison, 33, was charged with capital murder and is being held without bond, Welden said.

"Investigators said they located a clamp and bolt in the floor used in "bondage" activity, blood spatters and more rope wrapped around Madison's knife."

OMG, what a sick bastard. I say strap him down with his clamp and bolt, and skin him alive.

A DeKalb County man who was arrested and charged with the murder of an 11-year-old girl in 2019, pled guilty to a capital murder charge.

Christopher Wayne Madison was arrested after Amberly Alexis Barnett was found strangled in a wooded area behind Madison’s home in Collinsville.

Madison has been sentenced to life without parole.

Initially, the state was seeking the death penalty against Madison.

According to reports, the family requested prosecutors to accept Madison’s guilty plea, in hopes of sparing them from having to endure the graphic evidence that would be presented during the trial.

Madison was arrested in 2019 during the investigation into the death of Amberly Barnett. The 11-year-old’s body was found in a wooded area, just 200 yards from Madison’s home.

Barnett, who was from Georgia, was visiting her aunt – a neighbor of Madison’s. Amberly was reported missing on the evening of Friday, March 1, 2019. Her body was discovered around 6:30 the following morning. An autopsy would show she was strangled.

An investigator with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office at the time testified that Madison told them he had searched the woods near his home, but couldn’t find Barnett.

Investigators say that’s exactly where they found her, though, with a blue rope still tied around her neck.

Madison’s girlfriend reportedly told investigators that the same blue rope had been in their home. During their investigation, authorities found a clamp and bolt in the floor used in “bondage” activity, along with blood spatters and more rope wrapped around Madison’s knife.

Inside Madison’s home, investigators found a bloodied pair of his jeans in the dryer. There was blood in the bathroom sink and on the walls, mattress, bed frame and a sheet of paper in a bedroom.

I understand the family's position -

But what scares me is the path we are taking in giving more leniency to these degenerates.

People should never forget the Broomstick Killer he should have never been let out of prison and he was.
