Authorities say a Seymour woman fatally shot her 15-year-old grandson before calling 911 to report what happened and killing herself.

Police in Seymour found 68-year-old Wanda Huber dead Monday evening at the home she shared with her grandson Simon Huber.

Seymour Police Detective Sgt. C.J. Foster told WAVE-TV the police department received a call from Wanda Huber just before 5 p.m. Monday. She told a dispatcher there had been an accident at her home on Walnut Street.

“She pauses for a brief moment and then said, 'No, there had been a murder there,” Foster said. “That was the last communication we had with her.”

Seymour Police Chief Bill Abbott said Wanda Huber gave dispatchers her name and made sure they had her address before hanging up.

When officers arrived, they found Huber dead inside her home with what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. They found Simon shot, but still alive. He was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he died Monday night.

Foster said it is still not known why Huber would have shot her grandson, then herself.

“We still have some people to speak with and do some follow up interviews,” Foster said. “There has been some talk of some medical issues so we will definitely look into that.”

Foster said investigators will look into both mental and physical health, but say neither Simon nor his grandmother have had involvement with police before and officers had never been called to the home in the past.

I wonder if the grandson did something horrible and she found out about it and felt she could not let him live?

That's exactly what I thought too ... like maybe she walked in on him whacking it to Disney porn and that's was it ... everyone died.

When I read the title, I immediately thought it was a tragic accident. The scenario that played out in my mind was Granny thought he was an intruder & shot him in what she thought was self-defence, then being devastated when she realized that it was her grandkids, and therefore, suicide.

Obviously it's tragic in any circumstances but I'm still hoping for something like that over any kind of intentional murder. Like if the medical issues are that she's been in the development stages of dementia & even if she was able to see him clearlt, would not recognize him in a moment of senility. If so it would be devastating to come out of the l confusion and then you have the suicide.

Again, tragic in any reason.

Lots of self-control to blow kid away and then call 911 while keeping it all together. Strange.

There's a commercial on my TV. Ray Liotta's pitching quitting smoking with Chantix. Lots of warnings too, not by Ray of course, about how Chantix might lead to "anger, thoughts of suicide, depression..." all while Ray wanders around a garden and makes a salad.

That's it. Granny was on Chantix. At least she quit smoking.

I'm thinking she probably shot him during an altercation of some sort, her immediate reaction was to call 911, and then she realized, nope, I'm never going to be able to live with myself so I better just die too. It just doesn't seem like one of those cases where she wanted to commit suicide and decided to take someone with her.
