WASHINGTON — A decorated Special Forces soldier was arrested Monday for attempting to smuggle nearly 90 pounds of cocaine from Colombia into the U.S. on a military airplane, according to two defense officials.

Army Master Sgt. Daniel Gould, a soldier assigned to the 7th Special Forces Group, was arrested after Drug Enforcement Administration agents found 40 kilograms of cocaine in two backpacks on a military airplane in Colombia. The plane was bound for Eglin Air Force Base near Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

Gould allegedly tried to smuggle the cocaine in the two military-issue "punch out" bags. He was on vacation in Cali, Colombia, the week before the bust but had already traveled back to the U.S. when the drugs were loaded onto the aircraft. Officials said Gould used a proxy to move the bags onto the plane, but could not say whether that person was complicit or not.

A spokesperson for Army Special Operations Command would not comment on specific details. Gould did not immediately respond to a voicemail.

"We are aware of recent allegations concerning a U.S. soldier assigned under U.S. Army Special Operations Command for reportedly attempting to smuggle narcotics from Colombia into the U.S. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement officials concerning this matter. In order to protect the integrity of the investigation and the rights of the individual, there is no additional information available for release at this time," Lt. Col. Robert Bockholt wrote in response to questions about the case.

I have no words for what a low life scum bucket this guy is, he threw it all away.

PENSACOLA — Two more people, including a Colombian citizen, have been indicted on charges related to an alleged cocaine smuggling scheme involving a 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) soldier who reportedly tried to get nearly 90 pounds of cocaine into the United States from Colombia.

Federal grand jury indictments handed down last week charge 24-year-old Colombian Gustavo A. Pareja and 35-year-old Henry W. Royer of North Carolina with conspiring to possess and distribute cocaine with “reasonable cause to believe that such a substance would be unlawfully imported into the United States from a place outside thereof.”

Neither of the men are soldiers, according to Lt. Col. Loren Bymer, spokesman for the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.

So he wanted to make a little extra money from smuggling in some drugs. Who gives a shit?
Aren't you the one always saying drug addicts and dealers are vile pieces of shit that deserve to die? Shouldn't that go for the people bringing it into the country as well?

That "little extra money" has street value of about 12 million USD.

No, i have no beef with drug traffickers so long as they arent users, arent selling it on the streets themselves, and arent doing any other crimes.

For example, i have long admired the cocaine cowboy smugglers from back in the 80s, just some badass dudes with planes out to make some bucks.

I'm surprised they're still doing it. SOCOM folks used to pull this shit all the time until a few of them got caught.

Just an update.

Apparently I can update a whole slew of threads here with just one article.

EGLIN AFB — All three soldiers with the Army 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at the time they were charged last year in separate felonies have been separated from the Army, according to a 7th Group public affairs official.

As part of their separation, the two accused 7th Group troops who were Green Berets lost that certification, according to an email from Sgt. 1st Class Opal Vaughn, the group’s non-commissioned officer in charge of public affairs.

“All three men received an Other than Honorable (OTH) characterization of service, the harshest form of administrative discharge,” Vaughn said in an email.

In the most publicized of the three incidents, now-former Green Beret Master Sgt. Daniel Gould has pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiring to import and distribute cocaine from Colombia into the United States.

Gould was detained in August after two punching bags filled with nearly 90 pounds of cocaine were found at the U.S. Embassy in Bogota and traced to him. Further investigation revealed Gould and a second person in the case, Henry Royer of North Carolina, previously had gotten 22 pounds of cocaine from Colombia to Duke Field, an Eglin Air Force Base facility near 7th Group headquarters, aboard a military aircraft.
