What happened in Vegas will stay in Vegas — at least until Thursday for about 200 Allegiant Air passengers who were stranded Sunday when their flight to Oklahoma City was canceled.

Passengers could rebook with another carrier out of pocket, or for free on an Allegiant flight to a different location. But they will have to wait a couple more days if they want a direct Allegiant flight to Oklahoma City.

"Thanks for all your help tonight! My wife's girls trip to Vegas is now ending in a 17 hour drive from Vegas back to OKC," Paul Stuke, an Oklahoma City resident, tweeted Sunday.

Passengers were informed over a loudspeaker at the gate Sunday evening that the flight was canceled.

"It's just been a customer service nightmare," said Stuke's wife, Amanda, who was traveling with three friends, said. One-way flights to Oklahoma City at that time, she said, cost around $1,200 to $1,500. She and three friends opted to drive home, renting a car for around $420.
[....]
Hilarie Grey, spokesperson for the airline, said canceling without rescheduling is rare and only done when absolutely necessary.

"We sincerely apologize for the interruption to our passengers' travel plans," she said in an email.

All passengers received a refund. They will also will receive $300 and a $150 voucher toward their next flight, Grey said.

Amanda Stuke was finally able to talk to a manager at Allegiant on Tuesday. She hopes to get reimbursed for the rental car and food during her trip home. The agent, Stuke said, refused to convert her flight voucher into cash or a check to help cover the cost.

"They need to do the right thing and compensate for what it took to get home," she said.

I know I wouldn't want to be on that plane with them. Somehow my family has avoided interactions with lice, and I don't want that experience AT ALL!

Well my family didn't, my younger son had white blonde hair and you couldn't see the little fuckers unless you knew exactly what you were looking for. Getting rid of the lice out of your hair isn't the hard part, the hard part is washing, scrubbing, steam cleaning everything in your house that he has gone near.

They'll most likely have to steam clean that airplane and everyone who was on it should be proactive and treat themselves.

I'm sure his son loved the essay the father wrote that been read around the world, now all his friends will know, too. Thanks, Dad.

Passengers on two Air Transat flights were stuck on planes at the Ottawa airport for hours on Monday after being diverted due to stormy weather, and at least two of them called 911.

Air Transat flight 157 from Brussels was scheduled to arrive in Montreal at 3:15 p.m. ET Monday, but was diverted to Ottawa after circling east of Montreal due to thunderstorms.
[....]
It then sat on the tarmac for six hours, and passengers weren't allowed to get off. Laura Mah, who was on board, spoke to CBC News as they waited.
[....]
"The plane actually lost power and went zero AC [air conditioning], and then now we've got the doors open and one kid is puking, and people are just losing their minds," she said.

"They're just getting mad, saying 'This is not all right, this is not OK, you can't do this to us.' The police are in here and the fire department's in here and they're telling us that they can't do anything, that we just have to stay put."
[....]
The hundreds of passengers weren't given much information about what was going on, Mah said. They were told that the plane needed to be refueled, and then they were told that the fuel truck had run out of fuel.

One of the passengers eventually called 911, Mah said. Paramedics arrived and the Ottawa International Airport Authority handed out water to the stranded, hot passengers.

"I'm super pissed," Mah said. "I'm just really hot, I'm sweating, and I haven't eaten.… I'm hungry, and they only rationed the food to give little snacks to kids, which is good. Luckily, they started bringing in bottles of water from the outside like 45 minutes ago, but no food. I'm starving."

Twitter user Brice de Schietere posted several videos showing the darkened plane when it lost power, as well as flight crew giving intercom updates.

The flight finally left Ottawa at about 11 p.m. ET and landed at about 11:30 ET, eight hours and 15 minutes late.

In total, Mah, de Schiettere and the other passengers had been sitting on the plane for about 15 hours by the time they arrived in Montreal.
[....]
Ottawa International Airport Authority spokesperson Krista Kealey said about 20 flights had to be diverted to Ottawa Monday due to severe weather, with the first of them landing at about 4 p.m. ET. The last of the diverted flights took off at 11 p.m. ET, she said.
[....]
Emergency crews had to deal with "several medical calls," the Canada Border Services Agency needed to approve the opening of the cargo hold to check on a pet, the plane had "mechanical issues," and it needed to be refueled.

"We did have buses on standby in case they decided to disembark their passengers and process them through customs," Kealey said.

"However, that decision was not taken by the airline, and ultimately it is the airline that is responsible for making those decisions about whether a flight disembarks — and, in the case of an international flight, processes through Canada customs — or whether it sits and waits it out in the hopes that it can get to its final destination."
[....]
In an emailed statement written in French, Air Transat said the unusual amount of traffic at the Ottawa airport meant that airport staff weren't able to provide bridges or stairways to allow passengers to disembark their flights.
[....]
"We are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience that this situation, which was beyond our control, may have caused our passengers," the statement said.
[....]

Cell phone video is at the link.

God, flying is such a nightmare anymore.

I know... I sound like a spoiled, white American woman, and for that, I AM sorry to anyone who thinks "oh, do you have it that bad?"-- but no matter how deeply empathetic I am (which is very & to a fault), it's all I've ever been (not spoiled. Just white, female, and American- to clarify). :( so if I think it's a nightmare for me, I know it's prob hell on earth for a person of color or someone visiting from another country (oh, God love you if both! <3).

I hope none of the passengers have developed medical problems after being forced to sit for so long.
https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/dvt/travel.html

Blood clots can form in the deep veins (veins below the surface that are not visible through the skin) of your legs during travel because you are sitting still in a confined space for long periods of time. The longer you are immobile, the greater is your risk of developing a blood clot.Dec 19, 2016

Victor Shmulevich was trying to fly home to YVR airport after finishing a summer program at Yale University. But when he approached the United agent at Bradley International Airport near Hartford, the man told him the airline doesn’t allow unaccompanied minors on connecting flights.

“I replied, well this ticket is booked in my name…The agent was like, ‘You can’t board I’m sorry,’ ” Shmulevich said. “I’m just there trying to not freak out because I have nowhere to go back to. I have no relatives in Connecticut.”
[....]
“They say it’s a safety issue to let a minor on a connecting flight. But is it fine to leave minor miles away from home without any solution?” Victor’s mother, Alla, said.

“It’s ironic that since you’re e a juvenile you can’t fly, but you have to solve the problem yourself,” Dmitry Shmulevich, Victor’s father, said.

The agent told Victor to go talk to Air Canada, the airline he flew in with and who the agent said booked his connecting ticket.

Victor walked over to the Air Canada counter, which didn’t open until 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time. It was 9 a.m. Luckily, he found an Air Canada agent walking around who agreed to help him even though the booth was closed.
[....]
Eventually, Dmitry got in touch with Air Canada on the phone, and his son was booked on a 6:30 p.m. Air Canada flight to Toronto. Victor made it back home to Richmond around 2 a.m. Pacific – 20 hours after the ordeal started.

“For me what’s most concerning is that [United] didn’t actually try to assist us,” he said. “They said sorry, you’ve got to deal with this by yourself. We can’t do anything.”

In a statement to CTV News, United re-iterated its policy that it does not allow unaccompanied minors to travel on itineraries with connecting flights, which was the case with Shmulevich.

“We are looking into the booking process further to determine how this passenger was able to purchase a ticket for a flight that was not part of our unaccompanied minor program,” a spokesperson for the airline wrote in an email.

Out of all Star Alliance airline members, United and Thai Airlines are the only two that place restrictions on 15-year-olds flying alone. Many others consider unaccompanied minors as children up to 12, and even then have services that allow the children to fly alone for a fee.

Alla says the family was offered $250 in travel vouchers by United after the incident—which the airline doubled to $500 after being contacted by CTV News. Alla, however, says the family won’t ever fly United again.

What a conundrum, he can't fly alone, but he can be left in a airport all alone until he can figure out by himself how to get to where he needs to be.

That makes so much sense. NOT!

The violence erupted Saturday at Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, where passengers had been waiting 11 hours for a flight for British budget carrier EasyJet to Luton airport outside London.

Jean-François Guitard, a director at Nice airport, told CNN the man who punched the passenger is an employee of Samsic, a company subcontracted by the airport to help special needs travelers.
[....]
The passenger holding the baby complained about the long wait, Guitard said, and the Samsic employee reportedly responded with the punch.

Passenger Angela Arkwright said the victim was holding a child who looked around 9 months old.

“He didn’t want to have a fight. The worker just smirked at him and he was the other side of the glass barrier so he reached over to hit him,” Arkwright told the Daily Mail. ″It was one hell of a punch. It was a loud whack and there was no provocation.
[....]
Arkwright posted a picture of the punch on Twitter. The Sun published video of the blow from another angle, showing that the man who was punched was clearly holding a baby.

“It was awful the whole thing. I just can’t believe people can behave like that,” Arkwright told CNN. She said her husband restrained the airport employee until police arrived.
[....]
The punch victim had a mark on his face when he returned to the gate to board the long-delayed flight, Arkwright said.

By the time the passengers took off to London, they had waited 13.5 hours.

EasyJet released a statement to HuffPost saying the airline was “very concerned to hear about the incident in Nice,” and emphasized that the man accused of punching the passenger is not employed by EasyJet.
[....]
Neither the punched passenger nor the Samsic employee were identified.

Arkwright said she blames the whole incident on EasyJet, regardless of the violent airport worker’s employer.

An airport spokesman told News 2 a toilet overflowed in a women’s bathroom around 5 a.m. after someone stuffed paper towels in the toilet. The water soaked the bathroom floor and leaked down onto a secure baggage handling area.

The water then sprayed a lot of bags as they passed by on a conveyor belt. As many as 380 bags got wet, some more than others.

The bags were held so they could be treated and cleaned, according to Tom Jurkovich, Vice President of Communications. He told News 2 no one was exposed, and they are not sure how contaminated the water was, but it did come from a toilet.
[....]
Ten flights were delayed due to the problem.

Southwest passenger Kate Riley told News 2 she did not know her bag was involved until hours later.
[....]
Riley said her flight was delayed but did take off for Ft. Lauderdale. Passengers did not discover their luggage was missing until they went to baggage claim in Florida.

“And the issue is, things happen. I mean, if a pipe bursts and our bags are covered in sewage, OK. But why did they board us and make us leave?” Riley questioned. “People had issues that we could’ve dealt with in Nashville. They knew that getting us on the plane, letting us happily fly out of Nashville with no luggage.”

Riley said the airline offered her $100 per day for the trip. She was also told she can claim restitution.
[....]
This is not the first time a toilet has overflowed and led to a similar situation at the Nashville airport. It also happened on June 1 just two months ago.

The airport is now looking at making structural changes to the drainage system in the bathroom so a leak doesn’t happen again.

The airline, which has the worst record for pet deaths on-board their flights, is being held responsible by a Houston family for the death of their 5-year-old King Charles spaniel.

The Rasmussen family has claimed that United Airlines is responsible for the passing of their dog.

In a report to an ABC affiliate, the family said their dog was in the cargo hold of the plane when the flight was delayed and held on the tarmac for two hours before taking off to San Francisco, reports the New York Post.

During that time in the cargo hold, the family says their dog died.
[....]
This is just the most recent accusation of animal deaths and cruelty that the airline has faced.

A furious British Airways passenger had to sit on a urine-soaked seat for almost 11 hours on a flight to Cape Town.

Andrew Wilkinson (39) boarded the plane at Heathrow to visit his parents in South Africa.

He claimed a stewardess gave him wet wipes to mop up the mess when he alerted her.

"I was left to sit in a urine-soaked seat for over 11 hours when I paid £1,242 [€1,346] for a return flight with BA," he told the Sun.

"It was awful. By the end of the flight, I could feel it seeping into my jeans."

A spokesperson for British Airways told Independent.ie "the flight was completely full and there were no spare seats to move the customer to."

They added: "We were very concerned to hear about this and have been in touch with our customer to apologise and make amends.

[doublepost=1504712176,1503599173][/doublepost]Why wouldn't this be considered price gouging?

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trav...ry-escape-hurricane-irmas-path-224013499.html
On Monday evening, John Lyons, a 53-year-old father from West Hartford, Connecticut, purchased a one-way American Airlines ticket from Miami to Hartford for $159.20 for his daughter to get out of Hurricane Irma’s path as the storm churns through the Caribbean.

On Tuesday, he was shocked at the spike in airfare prices.

“I logged in and expected to see $160, and frankly if I had seen $260 I wouldn’t have reacted. And I logged in and saw, $1,020, and I about had a heart attack,” Lyons told Yahoo Finance in a phone interview on Tuesday afternoon.
[....]
“I’m seeing the direct hit on Florida. My daughter is down at the University of Miami, so I called her and said, ‘I’m going to bring you home. If worst comes to worst, we waste money, and you don’t come home, and this thing misses you, and everything is fine.’ I logged in last night and saw $159.20 to be exact. I said you know what; this ticket is so cheap, I’m just going to buy it.”

The next day, he went back to look for a ticket for his daughter’s roommate, who is also a close family friend’s daughter. Shocked at the price increase, he said he even made sure that he didn’t click first class by accident and he also verified that the flight had pretty much the same number of seats available compared to when he checked last night.

“American Airlines had the audacity to raise the rate $800. I’m sorry. I posted it. You know, I’m angry. I think it’s horrible what they are doing. I just think it’s horrible. I’ll leave it at that.”
[....]
“We have not changed our fare structures, and, in fact have added capacity to help get customers out of the affected areas,” an American Airlines spokeswoman said in a statement. “We have added several extra flights – from St. Maarten (SXM), St. Kitts (SKB), Providenciales, Turks and Caicos (PLS); and San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) – in addition to upgrading aircraft when possible. In addition, we have 33 airports included in our waiver program so customers will not be charged change fees or difference in fare with tickets for passengers who already held tickets. Full details on the waiver can be found at www.aa.com/travelalerts.
[....]
“I have booked trips to and from south Florida from Connecticut, short notice during peak holiday periods and I’ve never paid more than $600 or $700 round trip. It is appalling what American Airlines is doing. Like, literally, I’m sick to my stomach over this,” Lyons said. “This is outrageous behavior. Peoples’ lives are at stake.”

Some major airlines are now offering fares above $1,000 for one-way tickets out of Florida and customers have taken to social media to express their outrage.
[....]

Well there goes my idea to fly home then... Fucking disgusting.

Check out the differences.

United Airlines won’t be punished by the federal government over the forced removal of a passenger from a flight in April that put a spotlight on the growing tensions between airlines and travelers on crowded flights.

The Department of Transportation has concluded its investigation into the dragging of passenger Dr. David Dao and found no reason to fine the airline, the department said in a letter to United dated May 12.
[....]
The Transportation Department’s two-page letter was released Wednesday by a passenger rights group, Flyers Rights, which obtained it through a Freedom of Information Act request.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - Steven Williams dropped his mother off at Ronald Reagan National Airport. She was flying to New Jersey where she had a connecting flight to London. His 77-year old mother travels in a wheelchair and according to Williams is easily confused.

"They assist people in wheelchairs and get someone to wheel them through and basically take responsibility for that person until they arrive at their destination," said Williams.

Knowing that, he left the airport, trusting his mother in United Airlines's care.
[....]
"I got a text at 4:30 in the morning saying she hadn't arrived. I called the airline to make sure she was on the flight and they reassured me three or four times she was on that flight," he said.

It turns out his mother wasn't on that flight. He only found that out after hours of frantic phone calls. His mother made it to New Jersey, but Williams says United told him they bumped his mother off her connecting flight to London. He's still trying to figure out why.

"Basically she was left at the gate for 12 hours. They offered her a hotel that was miles away. She had to get there on her own steam. There's no way my mom could have pushed a wheelchair at her age, so she sat there.
[....]
"I want an apology and to know this won't happen again with my relatives or anyone else's relatives," said Williams.

United issued the following statement Tuesday:

"This never should have happened and we have spoken with our customer's family to apologize. We are working with our team and our wheelchair assistance vendor at Newark to review what happened and to prevent this from happening again.”

According to Williams, United called him Tuesday evening issuing that apology and offering his mother a $1,000 flight voucher.

apology and offering his mother a $1,000 flight voucher.

Fuck that voucher and the apology, the airlines need to fix their mess, if they can't guarantee someone to assist disabled people they shouldn't advertise that they can do it. It happens too much to be coverable by a voucher and an apology.

http://news.sky.com/story/ryanair-40-voucher-apology-for-cancellations-11055749
Ryanair has announced it is cancelling thousands more flights, with up to around 400,000 passengers likely to be affected.
[....]
It made the announcement while confirming plans to suspend 34 of its routes over the November-March winter season to prevent any further mass cancellations.

More than 2,000 flights to the end of October were abruptly axed earlier this month because of the "mess-up" over pilots' leave.
[....]
the airline will be left without any internal mainland UK services over the winter period.

Derry/Londonderry to Liverpool and Derry/Londonderry to Newcastle will be the only domestic UK flights to continue running.

Ryanair said that by operating 25 fewer aircraft over the winter it could deploy the flight crews to more popular services.

The no-frills carrier also signalled that it would no longer require its pilots to give up a week of their leave.

Michael O' Leary also sought to defuse frosty relations in an email to passengers, saying the voucher offer is the airline's way of apologising "for the disruption we caused".
[....]
The vouchers must be redeemed by the end of next month, with flights to be taken by 20 March.

The major disappointment for passengers is likely to be that - as well as Easter - the Christmas holidays are not covered by the vouchers because festive services between 20 December and 7 January are excluded.

Infants are also not eligible to receive the vouchers, meaning parents who had been due to fly with young children won't be issued with an extra €80 on their behalf.
[....]
The pilot shortage has been a PR disaster for Ryanair amid its Always Getting Better drive to improve customer satisfaction since 2014.

During a shareholders' meeting last Thursday, Mr O'Leary said the firm planned to recruit 120 new pilots within "the next week or two" to help avert the prospect of a fresh wave of cancellations.

He said on Wednesday that the latest actions ruled out any further disruption.

Mr O'Leary pledged: "From today, there will be no more rostering-related flight cancellations this winter or in summer 2018.

"Slower growth this winter, will create lots of spare aircraft and crews which will allow us to manage the exceptional volumes of annual leave we committed to delivering in the 9 months to Dec 2017."

Here's another person dragged off the plane, but it sounds like she had a chance to play nice but wanted everything catered to her. What do you think?

https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/a...video-shows-woman-being-dragged-plane-n805111
[....]
Bill Dumas, who filmed the video, said the woman claimed she had a "deadly allergy" to dogs and asked that the two animals on board be removed. Dumas said the woman asked for a type of injection to alleviate her symptoms after the crew told her they could not remove the animals.

Dumas said he heard a flight attendant say they needed a certificate to administer an injection, which the woman didn't have. A pilot offered to let the woman exit the plane so an injection could be administered, but she refused, he said.

Once law enforcement boarded the flight, Dumas's video began.

In a short first video, two law enforcement officers can be seen tugging at the woman as they try to remove her from her seat at the rear of the plane.

As the second video begins, officers are seen moving the woman down the aisle. She can then be heard pleading with them to let her stay.

“My dad has surgery tomorrow. I’m sorry, my dad has a surgery. What are you doing?” she says frantically, as she resists the officers.
[....]
The cabin is filled with chatter as some passengers suggest the woman make the complaint off of the flight, while others tell her to walk as instructed to ensure her own safety.

The scuffle pauses briefly as the woman accuses the officers of ripping her pants. They tell her to fix her pants and leave the plane.

When it seems like the woman is hesitating, an officer wraps his arms around the woman’s chest and begins to forcefully drag her down the aisle. She begins shrieking: “Don’t touch me! I’m walking!”

A sense of anxiety can be heard in the voices of those around her. One woman can be heard saying, “Show them that you’re walking.”

An officer yells, “Then walk!”
[....]
Tempers seem to boil over as an officer shoves the woman toward the door. She turns and says: “I’m a professor. What are you doing?”

As police continue to wrestle the woman down the aisle, a man’s voice is heard saying: “Geez, lady. Get off the plane. Make the complaint later.”

One passenger told NBC News that the woman was also yelling that she was pregnant as police pulled her off the flight.

"Then I heard her say her father had surgery and then she said she was a professor and she needed to be in L.A.," the passenger, Julia Rockett, 20, said. "She was kind of yelling random things, and she knew people were recording."

Rockett said a flight attendant asked passengers not to record the confrontation, but "obviously, no one listened.".

The Maryland Transportation Authority Police said the request to remove the woman came from the plane's captain and they responded accordingly.

The woman was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order, disturbing the peace, obstructing and hindering a police officer, and resisting arrest. She was transported to the Anne County Court Commissioner before she was released on her own recognizance, police said.
[....]
"We are disheartened by the way this situation unfolded and the customer's removal by local law enforcement officers," Southwest Airlines said in the statement. "We publicly offer our apologies to this customer for her experience, and we will be contacting her directly to address her concerns."

The Southwest Airlines incident is reminiscent of a similar controversy aboard United Airlines, in which a now-viral video showed Dr. David Dao being bloodied as he was dragged off a plane.

Anila Daulatzai of Baltimore was taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct, failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order, disturbing the peace, obstructing and hindering a police officer and resisting arrest, said Lt. Kevin Ayd of the Maryland Transportation Authority Police.

Daulatzai was transported to the Anne Arundel County District Court, where she was released on her own recognizance, Ayd said. She had been removed from the plane at the request of its captain.

@Satanica , I think Daulatazi is messed up in the head. She reminds me of people who just dig themselves deeper into drama when they don't get their way. I see nothing in her trip planning to prove she's on top of her allergies (arranging seating away from the dogs, notifying the crew of her allergies, keeping an epipen with her) and when she's faced with a problem, she does nothing to improve the situation. It's all about her and how everyone else has to suffer. Demanding that service dogs be kicked off the plane over her lack of planning? Demanding the airline give her an epipen when she can't be bothered with bringing her own expensive meds?

Let's see, what else did she use to keep from being booted off the flight....
1. Dad is having surgery tomorrow.
2. I'm a professor.
3. I'm pregnant.

I'm waiting for her to claim sexual assault from one of the officers. Just you wait.

But I'm glad you posted this because it gives us a chance to see douchebaggery from both sides.

I don't see how being a professor was going to make them treat her better after all those shenanigans. It doesn't work for lawyers or doctors.

I think she thought that the dogs would be removed if she complained loud and long enough. But you can easily check whether there are dogs on the plane if it is of real concern to you and definitely would have an epipen if your allergy to dogs was that bad. It's not as if she couldn't afford one of those over priced things, she's a professor, as she told people at the top of her lungs. She's just used to getting her way and was not prepared when she was called on HER DOUCHEBAGGERY!
