Thomas Barker (from left), Joshua Holby and Steven Powers

A kidnapped Minnesota teen bravely swam across a lake to safety from her abductors after nearly a month in captivity.

Jasmine Block, 15, was reunited with her family this week after she disappeared from her Alexandria home in August, news station WCCO reported.

Three men were arrested in connection to her disappearance. Police identified the suspects as Thomas Barker, 32; Joshua Holby, 31; and Steven Powers, 20.

Authorities said that the 15-year-old was acquainted with at least one of the suspects.

Barker reportedly convinced the teen to get in a car on Aug. 8 and brought her to a Carlos home, where she was repeatedly physically and sexually assaulted.

“Barker tied her up with zip ties and then he, his roommate, and friend over the next several weeks assaulted her and threatened her with weapons,” Alexandria Police Chief Rick Wyffels said.

On Tuesday afternoon, the captors left the teen alone for the first time and she made her escape, news station KARE reported.

The 15-year-old went to several homes for help, but no one answered so she swam across Thompson Lake.

Once to shore, she ran to a farm where a man called 911.

The teen was taken to a hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

the middle one looks like he's gonna cry. Great! I hope he cries every night while his bunk mate initiates a game of hide the salami

This is literally the plot of Last House On the Left, except for how long it lasted. Well, and that these "bad guys" are still alive, which sucks. Irredeemable pieces of trash.

A farmer who stopped by his house in the middle of his work shift ended up finding a missing 15-year-old girl from Alexandria.

Jasmine Block disappeared Aug. 8 from outside her mother’s home.
[...]
Police said her three captors left her alone to grab lunch which is when she made her escape. She swam across the lake and onto the man’s property. He Jasmine wasn’t wearing any pants or shoes, telling him she took them off in the water because they were making it hard for her to swim.
[...]
The man wanted to drive her away from the property but he said dispatchers told him to stay put. When they arrived another surprise happened before his eyes.

“I was getting her out of the pickup to put her in the deputy’s car and she says ‘There’s the car, there’s the car’,” he said describing how she spotted a vehicle belonging to one of the suspects driving right past the home.

“So one of the deputies chased him down.”
Barker, family acquaintance, picked her up in front of her mother's house. These men would have had to kill her in the end.

I find it strange they released her name - she's still a minor. I understand the need to report her found, but why go into detail about them assaulting her?

Brave girl- glad she was able to save herself.

They released her name because she was reported missing over a month ago, and her description was all over. It's an ongoing news story.

They all just look so fucking stupid. I wouldn't trust them to flush the toilet much less get in a car with them.

Bet they were driving around trying to find her if they were on the other side of the lake by the farm.

Alleged ringleader in Alexandria girl’s abduction is a disabled father of 6, mom says

Two of the three suspects in the kidnapping and assault of a 15-year-old Alexandria girl were best friends and had attended high school in Alexandria together, said the mother of one of them.

Lisa Barker, mother of suspect Thomas Jay Barker, 32, lives not far from the trailer house where police say the three men held the teen prisoner even as family and law enforcement officers desperately searched for her in the days and weeks after she disappeared.

[...]

Her son has cerebral palsy and uses a walker to get around, but was able to clean his house and work on his cars, she said. At one point, he ran Lakes Area Taxi in Alexandria.

“Even though he’s disabled, he can pretty much do anything,” she said. “I would say he’s pretty smart.”

Her son is married and has six children, including a month-old son with his current wife, she said. His wife and son live in Alexandria, not in the trailer house in Carlos, which is just northwest of Alexandria. One of his children lives in the same Alexandria mobile home park as the victim, which was why he was familiar with that area.

[...]

Lisa Barker said she had followed the search for the missing teen on Facebook, but nothing she saw or heard ever indicated that her son was involved.

“I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this,” she said.

She wondered aloud that if the three men truly were involved in the teen’s disappearance, why none of them stopped it.

[...]

Amanda Lavine, owner of Carlos Ag and Grocery, said Holby and Barker came into the store sometimes, usually separately. Barker usually came in with several friends who would help him get around, she said. They were nice and polite in the store, she said, but also seemed odd and somewhat slow, mentally.

“Did I think they were capable of this?” she said. “No.”

Barker has the most checkered past. A search of Minnesota court records dating back to 2003 shows that he’s pleaded guilty or has been convicted of seven misdemeanors that include two fourth-degree burglaries, three disorderly conduct charges, displaying a BB gun in a threatening manner and domestic assault, along with a dozen driving-related petty misdemeanors.

Last May, Barker faced three misdemeanor charges: domestic assault by causing fear of immediate bodily harm or death, intentionally inflicting or attempting to inflict bodily harm on another, and disorderly conduct by committing offensive, abusive, noisy or obscene behavior.

Checking the Minnesota criminal records, many of these convictions were pleaded down to a lesser charge.

Investigators said family acquaintence, 32-year-old Thomas Barker lured her into his car last month, taking her to his home in Carlos.

“Barker tied her up with zip ties and then he his roommate and friend over the next several weeks assaulted her and threatened her with weapons,” said Alexandria Police Chief Rick Wyffels.

What a dumbfuck. Why do you think they didnt try to stop it, cuz they wanted some 15 year old poon. How can people be so fucking stupid!?

Wonder how he knew the victim. Did she play with his kid in that trailer park, or did he just notice her when driving thru and hangin round or picking up/dropping off kids at his estranged wifes place?

Wonder how he got her in the car. Dumb kid.

"According to the criminal complaint, Barker kidnapped the girl from her home in Alexandria, about 133 miles northwest of Minneapolis, on Aug. 8 by tricking her into thinking he needed her to talk to his son, who was misbehaving. Barker was her friend’s dad, so she agreed to help, leaving her phone behind."

Many more details at the link. Made her snort meth too.

The criminal complaint says Powers arrived at the home about two weeks into the girl's abduction and was told not to go into Barker's room when Barker and Holby left the residence. But Powers became curious, went into the bedroom and found the girl in the locked closet.

"Powers did not free (her), nor did he contact law enforcement," the complaint said.

Dude! You could have been a hero! Now you're still a big fucking dumb-ass zero, who's going to be butt fucked in the pen.

[...]

... Barker told police that he had used methamphetamine and alcohol, but he denied knowing the girl or picking her up. Barker also said that Powers had been with the girl, but that he had not and he declined to answer more questions ...
Really? That's the fuckturd's defense?

The police chief told Melchert he was entitled to a $7,000 reward for helping bring the girl to safety - $2,000 from the girl's family, and $5,000 from an anonymous donor.

But Melchert refused to accept the reward. Instead he told Wyffels he wanted to give that reward to the teenage girl and her family.

One of the men charged in connection with the kidnapping and assault of an Alexandria teen in 2017 was sentenced Tuesday to seven years and two months (86 months) in prison.
Joshua Holby did not say anything in court, KSTP's Brett Hoffland reported. He had been charged with two counts of kidnapping and one count of false imprisonment.
He was given credit for 491 days served.

Three men were charged in connection to the matter. Thomas Barker was sentenced to just under 24 years in prison last November. Steven Powers also pleaded guilty to charges against him and is expected to be sentenced on Jan. 16.

"She has a lot of PTSD, she has trust issues which is to be expected [and] her life will never be the same again. She'll never be the Jasmine before this," said Sarah Block, the mother of the victim, Jasmine Block.

Jasmine told investigators her alleged captors mostly held her in a closet outfitted with a television and a fan, assaulted her and transported her in a large duffle bag.

"She will always have that fear that something will happen because this was someone we trusted," Sarah said. "You just have this hole in your heart and fear not knowing what's going on, is she okay, is she hurt and every one I looked at I questioned."

Jasmine Block told investigators she believed one of her captors attempted to drown her in a bathtub before she was able to fight him off. Another forced her from a bucket she was standing on while she had a rope or cord around her neck, and she described a period during which she could not breathe.
