Just going to be blunt and to the point with this post so, in a nutshell, we desperately need people posting news stories.

When we had the fiasco with one of our prominent posters, who spent a very large percentage of their days posting every story under the sun, we knew we would be taking a hit when they left.

However, we constantly got complaints regarding that member, from people stating they wanted to post news stories but were unable to because the other member always got to them first. Well it has been a fair amount of time since that person has left, but the amount of news articles being posted has dropped considerably - and has remained that way.

I appreciate all of those who still continue to post articles when they can, but in order for this forum to remain viable, there has to be a lot of new content being produced than what we have currently. The forums aren't going anywhere, thanks to @Macabre, at least until August of next year. But things really need to turn around in that time.


So that's my statement. But here's my question:

What can I do to make posting news stories more appealing? Not just for you - the current members - but even for newcomers. I am open to any ideas or suggestions, no matter how crazy.

Edit:

Just to clarify, this is about posting new news. Membership and traffic is strong so not looking for overall forum changes - just looking for ideas to entice people to post news stories.

Pornography will never be coming back. It was a pain in the ass when we had it before you were a member, and a pain in the ass when we brought it back for a short while. I have no idea what you mean about bringing some of the craziness back.

But this is about posting news. Our membership and traffic is strong. But new news content is not.

I'm already more than happy to post stories for others, e.g., those who're at work, can't post from their cell phones, etc. And, I always credit the story to the person who found it and sent it.

I'm also more than happy to give anyone a quick tutorial on the basics for anyone who's on a laptop or PC who's a little intimidated to try and post a story. Just inbox me and we can use the inbox convo for practice. :)

If you're going to be a dick about it, then bring Whisper back. I haven't been around as often lately, but the traffic and membership is strong, but there is lack of content, and this somehow threatens to shut down the forums?

I wasn't being a dick about it, I answered your question. Had I known that would have rustled your jimmies, I would have tried to rephrase my answer in a more sensitive nature. So let me try to explain in more detail, in case anyone else read my opening post as a threat of the forums getting shut down.

There is a lack of new NEWS and I am asking what I could do to change that. Member activity has nothing to do with new news articles - the number one source that brings new members in. If news stories dry up, then so do this forum. So it wasn't a threat - it was me being transparent.

We can have a contest on who can find the most fucked up stories. Winner wins your attention until you get distracted by fallout and they also win a DD coffee mug.


Winner determined by a poll or something.
 
There is a decent sticky from Dakota detailing how to post stories. I would also be happy to post stories you find or give a brief walk-through on how to do so.

Do a tutorial on posting using a android phone ..I have been here over a year and have wanted to post but I am truly technology SLOW ..and have not been able to figure it out..make sure the tutorial is for us slow learners to other wise it will just go over my head..

That is also a good idea, and also do-able. Like @Lauralye suggestion, it would just take some figuring out... and some help. No way I could keep track of it.
 
I find links for kickass stories from time to time, but my office blocks DD for some totally unknown reason so I'm stuck attempting to post on my phone which is too much of a pain in the ass. If there is anyone that wants to create the threads I'd definitely send them over. I think other members would too.

What I'm kinda getting at is that if anyone likes posting but doesn't find stories, speak up. People will happily send them over if we know who wants em.

I don't know that I "like posting" stories, but I'd be willing to help people out with it.
 
I'd be happy to post new stories, I'll start watching for them. I'll need to check out the tutorial though. (or I like the idea of bringing Whisper back! She was a nonstop news poster, did people actually complain that she was posting too many stories?)
 
What it boils down to for me is if I find something FUBB or that grabs my attention I will post a paragraph or three from the original article and link to it. If somebody wants to toss some links my way I can probably gin up something like that or get the info then post something more bespoke.

Ok, expanding on the "reward" thing... how would that work, exactly? We have the trophy thing, but how else could a member be rewarded on a monthly basis? Recognition, or recognition and something else? I like the Bold membership thing... like the monthly winner gets another month added to their subscription type thing. Or if a non-bold member, they get a month of bold.

Because money is so tight, I like the bold idea, myself. I don't care about recognition, but I'm sure that would motivate some to post.
