On March 2, prominent Austin jeweler Theodore Shaughnessy, of Gallerie Jewelers, was gunned down in his home during an apparent home invasion.

Citing court documents, KXAN-TV in Austin reports Shaughnessy heard his dogs bark and grabbed a firearm to check the house. Corey Shaughnessy, the man's wife, said she heard gunshots about a minute later. She said someone then fired at her and she returned fire with her handgun "until she ran out of ammunition" and called police.

Theodore Shaughnessey and one of the family's dogs were killed in the attack that investigators said Tuesday was part of a murder-for-hire plot by the couple's only child, 19-year-old Nicolas Patrick Shaughnessy.

Arrest warrants were issued late Tuesday afternoon for Nicolas and his 19-year-old girlfriend, Jaclyn Alexa Edison, of College Station. About 90 minutes later, both were in the custody of the Travis County Sheriff's Department.

In the months before the shooting, Nicolas Shaughnessy approached multiple people asking if they were willing to be paid to kill someone, investigators allege in an arrest affidavit. He estimated that he'd receive some $8 million from the life insurance policies for his parents, from the sale of their home and sale of the jewelry store.

Nicolas and Edison are accused of conspiring together to hire someone to murder both of Shaughnessy's parents, though it remains unclear who fired the shots that killed Theodore Shaughnessy.

Travis County Sheriff's spokeswoman Kristen Dark said in a statement to the Associated Press that detectives "are following new leads in the case." She declined to elaborate when later reached by phone.

Two days after Theodore Shaughnessy's death, a message was posted on Gallerie Jeweler's Facebook page saying the store was closed until further notice. Late last month, the page was updated to say "Nicolas, Ted's son, will be carrying on his legacy here at Gallerie."

Both Nicolas Shaughnessy and Jaclyn Edison are being held in the Travis County Jail on a charge of soliciting to commit capital murder, on cash bonds of $3 million and $1 million, respectively. It's not immediately clear if either have obtained an attorney.

Loose lips sink ships and this ship was sunk before it ever set sail.
You don't just go around asking for people to kill your parents unless you want to get caught. You're going to have to A) pay off everyone you to spoke to about murdering your parents cos B) if you don't give them a reason not to talk they will cos C) they don't want to be considered an accessory to a crime.
Something like this is bound to get out eventually so talking reckless like they were might as well have just told the cops what they were planning.

Entitled little shit. His GF looks like she could be his sister— maybe that was her motivation.

sociopathic little trustafarian made me puke when I read this. I can't believe the evil lazy pos that pull stuff like this, proud of mom to act like a true Texan with grit it saved her life otherwise she would have ended up like her husband and dog

Police have arrested a third suspect in the shooting death of a prominent Texas jewelry store owner in an alleged "murder-for-hire" plot.

Johnny Roman Leon III, 22, was arrested by Travis County Police Wednesday for criminal solicitation of capital murder (first-degree felony) in the death of Ted Shaughnessy, according to a police affidavit.

The Travis County’s Sheriff’s Office arrested Ted Shaughnessy's son, Nicolas Shaughnessy, and his girlfriend, Jaclyn Alexa Edison, both 19 years old, on May 29 and charged each of them with soliciting to commit capital murder in a plot to kill both his father and mother.

Surveillance footage from Nicolas Shaughnessy's home revealed that he met with two men on Feb. 28 and police were able to track down one of the men, according to a police affidavit. The man -- who is only identified as "the source" in the affidavit for safety reasons -- admitted it was him in the video and identified Leon as the other man.

Son of slain Texas jeweler admits to hiring hitman, gets 35 years
The son of a murdered Austin-area jeweler was sentenced to 35 years behind bars after admitting he paid a hitman to kill his father Wednesday.

Nicolas Patrick Shaughnessy, 22, pleaded guilty to murder during a virtual court hearing.

Family members found the deal inadequate, they said in a statement.

“It would be our hope that you are never released from prison,” the family wrote. “We understand this plea but are not happy about it.”

Shaughnessy, and his girlfriend at the time, Jaclyn Alexa Edison, were arrested in connection with the murder-for-hire plot in 2018. The suspects have since married and divorced.
