Three people are dead and two were injured after an apparent murder-suicide in Elmore County, Sheriff Bill Franklin confirmed Saturday night.
Police and fire units responded to a house on Granite Way in the Stonegate subdivision in Wetumpka Saturday night. Wetumpka Fire Chief Greg Willis confirmed the department responded to the house for a fire around 6 p.m. According to Sheriff Franklin, Bob Orsi shot and killed his wife, Charlene Ann Orsi, and one of their four children, then set the house on fire. Franklin said authorities assume the father shot and killed himself, but they are waiting for forensics to confirm the exact cause of death.
Two of the Orsi children were also shot and transported for surgery Saturday night. Sunday morning, Franklin said they were out of surgery and stable, and they were talking to family members. He said one may need more surgery at a later date.
According to a post by the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page, Charlene Ann Orsi was found dead in the carport, and the child killed was found in a bedroom. The two injured children escaped after being shot, and a fourth child was able to flee unharmed to a neighbor’s house.
A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family:
According to court documents, Bob and Charlene Ann Orsi were married in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1994. Documents show Charlene Ann Orsi filed for divorce June 28 of this year, only nine days ago, citing irreconcilable differences. The sheriff’s office’s Facebook post said the divorce was due to Bob Orsi’s alleged drug use. Bob Orsi denied those claims in an opposing motion on July 2. Charlene had requested full custody of the four children.
Franklin said Bob Orsi was a "military guy" and he assumes he had some explosives or ammunition around the house. He said neighbors reported hearing multiple explosions.
