A convicted sex offender released from prison in November has been charged in the shooting death of a 21-year-old Ohio State University student, two days after she was shot dead and her nude body was found near a public park.

Brian Golsby, 29, was arrested Saturday on charges of aggravated murder, kidnapping and aggravated robbery in Reagan Tokes' death, Grove City police said.

Reagan was last seen leaving work at Columbus restaurant Bodega Wednesday night.

Her nude body was found Thursday near the main entrance to Scioto Grove Metro Park, around 15 minutes' drive south of Bodega.

Tokes grew up outside Toledo and was a fourth-year psychology major at Ohio State.

Police said they arrested Golsby after finding Tokes' car near his Columbus residence and matching his DNA with evidence gathered in and around the car.

Golsby pleaded guilty in 2011 to Franklin County robbery and attempted rape charges.

Reagan's family has now started a Go Fund Me, hoping to create a scholarship in her name to help a student attend her or his dream school.

He sister Makenzie said in a heartbroken tweet Friday: 'The fact that our teachers from middle school are calling just shows how much of an impression you made on them. Everyone loves you.'

A service for Reagan has been planned at Maumee United Methodist Tuesday and Wednesday.

Her body was found around 100-150 yards from the park's entrance by a passerby, who called police at around 1:10 pm, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

Police said at the time it was unclear whether she was shot there, or if she was killed elsewhere and her body dumped.

Jury selection is underway for the trial of a man suspected of kidnapping, raping and killing an Ohio State University student.

Defendant Brian Golsby could face the death penalty if convicted in the slaying of 21-year-old Reagan Tokes. The 30-year-old Golsby has pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated murder.

A judge says the process of choosing jurors could span this week.

The judge has so far declined a request by Golsby’s attorneys to move the trial away from Columbus. The defense has argued Golsby can’t get a fair trial in Franklin County because of publicity about the case.

Tokes’ body was found in February 2017 at a park in Grove City, about 10 miles southwest of Columbus. Police say they matched Golsby’s DNA evidence from Tokes’ car.

A registered sex offender could face the death penalty after he was convicted Tuesday of raping and killing an Ohio State University Student.

On what would have been Reagan Tokes 23rd birthday, her family members wept in court as a Franklin County jury found Brian Golsby of the then 21-year-old.

At the time she was killed, Reagan was just three months from receiving her degree in psychology from the university.

Sentencing for the 30-year-old, who pleaded not guilty, will begin on Friday. If it is ruled the murder was premeditated he could receive the death sentence.

The guilty verdict came after jurors in Columbus deliberated for more than five hours.

Prosecutors said Golsby kidnapped Tokes after she left work on February 8, 2017.

Over a two hour period he raped her and then forced her to withdraw $60 at automated teller machines, according to the Toledo Blade.

Tokes' body was found naked at a park in Grove City, which is about 10 miles southwest of Columbus.

During closing arguments, Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer Rausch called what happened 'every woman's nightmare.'

She told the jury he 'kidnapped her. He robbed her. He raped her, and then he executed her.'

And as she was speaking, Reagan's younger sister Makenzie placed her head in her mother's head, as if seeking comfort.

'All the puzzle pieces fit,' Rausch said during closing arguments, referring to all of the evidence that placed Golsby with Tokes' in the hours she went missing.

GPS data showed he was at the same location with Tokes for more than two hours. Tokes' DNA on the gun he used to shoot her twice in the head, and his DNA was found on her body and in her car.


Golsby was also seen driving Tokes' car after her murder, and confessed to two people close to him - his six-year-old daughter's mother Jennifer Nickell and a woman he called 'sis' Brittney Stepp

Golsby had just been released from prison, where he was being held for attempted rape. He was staying at a halfway house, and wore a GPS ankle bracelet that wasn't being tracked in real time.

Police later used the device's data to retrace his steps.

The Defense attorney has contended that, because he was wearing the ankle bracelet, he can't have planned her death ahead.

She admitted that Golsby shot Reagan, but said his wearing the GPS device and driving around after her murder in her car shows he wasn't smart enough for it to have been premeditated.

The defense claims he was scared when he decided to kill her.

A man convicted of kidnapping, raping and killing an Ohio State University student has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

A judge sentenced 30-year-old Brian Golsby in a Columbus courtroom Wednesday. Jurors had recommended life without parole after finding Golsby guilty last week in the death of 21-year-old Reagan Tokes. He could have received the death penalty sought by prosecutors.

Golsby had apologized in court and asked jurors for mercy. His lawyers argued his traumatic childhood shaped his actions and urged that his life be spared.

The prosecutor said Wednesday he was satisfied Golsby will no longer be a threat to society.

I knew he wouldn't get the DP but thankfully they put him away for life this time.
Too bad it took him murdering someone but ok.
He should have been in jail for at least 15yrs for the crime he was released on cos the sentence he received was laughable.
