Carol Gary
has confirmed a woman and her son have been murdered in Oxford, MS
Police say Dr. Carol Lavett Gary and her 12-year-old son Patrick Earl Gary, Jr. were found dead apparently from gunshot wounds.

Dr. Gary was principal at Davidson Elementary School in Water Valley, MS.

Both were found dead in their home in the South Oaks subdivision in the 200 block of County Road 301.

Oxford police say they are questioning several people including some family members, but there are no suspects.

Dozens of people who knew the victims came to offer their condolences.

The outpouring of support was no surprise to people who worked with Dr. Carol Gary.

“I was not surprised to see as many people as I saw. Because I know she touched many lives,” said Calendra Morgan.

Morgan said Gary was more than an administrator, “I mean she meant business but you could talk to her about personal issues as well. And I am going to miss her.”

Around 1 p.m. Friday, the Lafayette County coroner removed the bodies from the home.

The case has been turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of investigation.

Carol Gary was married but there is no information on where her husband was at the time of the shootings.

- Investigators arrested a 25-year-old man in connection to the death of a principal and her son Friday morning. The suspect is accused of shooting his mother and 12-year-old half-brother to death.

Regis Mister, 25, was living with both the victims in a home on County Road 301 in Mississippi.

Mister reportedly has no previous encounters with police. Although, he was being investigated by the state auditor's office for possible embezzlement while employed as a deputy for the Yalobusha County Sheriff's Office. Mister, was also a school resource officer, according to DA John Champion

Dr. Carol Lavett Gary, 43, and her son, Patrick Earl Gary, 12, were found dead around 6 a.m.

According to Water Valley School District Superintendent Kim Chrestman, Dr. Gary was a teacher for 12 years before becoming principal at Davidson Elementary School.

Dr. Gary is described by many as a "rock in the community" of Water Valley, which is about 19 miles south of Oxford, Mississippi.

"She loved children and the children were her reason for working in the school system," said Calandra Morgan, who worked with Dr. Gary. "The Bible tells us to let our light shine and that's what she did. We knew that she meant business, but she loved God and allowed his love to shine through her and love others."

Morgan showed up at Dr. Gary's house Friday morning after learning that her friend and coworker had been killed.

Word spread quickly through the small community.

"First of all, she was a woman of faith," agreed Chrestman. "She was highly professional, she wanted things done right."

Supt. Chrestman added that Dr. Gary had high expectations for her faculty. It made them better teachers and people.

"You could not help but love her; nothing but good came out of her mouth," said Chrestman.

By Friday afternoon, a makeshift memorial had been erected at the foot of the school sign.

"We have truly lost an angel," said Morgan. "She will be missed."

Classes at Davidson Elementary School went on as scheduled Friday, though many parents picked their children up early.

Darn! I was hopingit wasn't family, tho I was thinking husband not son.

But really his name is Mister Mister?

The man accused of shooting and killing his mother and 12-year-old brother was sentenced to 48 years in prison with no possibility of early release.

Regis Mister, a former Yalobusha County Sheriff’s deputy, was indicted in March 2014 on two counts of murder for killing his mother, Carol Lavett Gary, 43, and her son, Patrick Earl “PJ” Gary Jr. at their South Oaks home in the early morning hours of Nov. 8, 2013.

On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty before Circuit Court Judge John Kelly Luther to two counts of second-degree murder. He was originally charged with first-degree murder but the charge was reduced in the plea agreement.

He was sentenced to 40 years in prison with 16 years suspended on both charges, leaving 24 years to serve, followed by five years of probation after release. Both sentences were ordered to run consecutively, meaning he must finish one sentence before he begins serving the other, leaving a total of 48 years to serve.

Mister, 27, will not be eligible for “good behavior” time off of his sentence. According to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, he will serve every day of the 48 years. Should he live long enough to fulfill his sentence, he will be released and will be on parole for five years. He will be 75 years old when he completes his sentence.

In a letter submitted in February to the court, Mister asked a Lafayette County Circuit Court judge to consider allowing him out of prison so he can help his elderly grandparents and take an active role in his church. No mention of the shooting was made. In his letter, Mister said if a judge let him go he would give up his law enforcement certification, donate his gun and ammo to a local SWAT team. He said he didn’t want a felony on his record because it would make it hard for him to get a job.

What world does he live in that he thinks he can kill his mother and brother and be let off to help his grandparents? If I were his grandparents I would be afraid for my life. The Balls he has to even say such drivel.

Certainly not this world, because he going to be giving up all that stuff anyway, to spend the rest of his life in prison. As he should.
