A 61-year-old man who works as a part-time aquatics program coordinator for the West Allis-West Milwaukee Recreation Department was in jail Thursday, suspected of sexually assaulting young boys for more than 30 years, authorities said.

Daniel Acker of Waukesha was arrested Monday during a swim practice at West Milwaukee Middle School, said Deputy Inspector Bradley Wentlandt of the Greenfield Police Department. Acker is suspected of assaulting boys between the ages of 7 and 15 from the 1970s to 2008, police said.

Acker is suspected in hundreds of assaults involving dozens of children over the years, police said. Some of the assaults are alleged to have occurred in Greenfield.

Acker has been placed on leave by the recreation department and is being held in the Milwaukee County Jail pending charges.

The recreation department is run by the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District, Superintendent Kurt Wachholz said in a news conference Thursday afternoon.

Wachholz said the district reported to the Greenfield Police Department on Monday a complaint from a citizen alleging criminal conduct by the part-time employee that occurred many years ago in Greenfield.

Wentlandt said police received a tip Monday morning that led them to four male victims, now all in their 40s. One of the men alleged that Acker assaulted him at least 100 times, Wentlandt said.

Police then spoke with a 19-year-old man who told investigators that he and Acker started having sex when the man was 15 or 16, Wentlandt said. The man told police that he and Acker are still in a sexual relationship, Wentlandt said.

Police are seeking charges in connection with the 19-year-old man's allegations, but investigators hope other victims come forward as the case evolves, Wentlandt said.

"We know there are other victims out there," he said.

Acker has provided police with a confession in relation to the allegations, Wentlandt said.

Acker has had access to children as a swim instructor, coach and lifeguard throughout the Milwaukee area for more than 40 years, Wentlandt said. He is a former employee of the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex and Child/Adolescent Treatment Center, according to police.

As the aquatic programs coordinator for the recreation department, Acker's duties included setting up the swim schedule and coordinating lifeguards and instructors for the department's four pools, at Nathan Hale and Central high schools and Frank Lloyd Wright and West Milwaukee middle schools, Wachholz said.

Wachholz said Acker had worked for the district for "a number of years," but he could not pinpoint the exact length of time and didn't discuss details of the allegations. Acker worked mainly from an office at the recreation department, 2930 S. Root River Parkway in West Allis.

"We have been informed that an ongoing police investigation is being conducted that may also now include the West Allis-West Milwaukee community," he said.

Student services staff will be available at each of the district's schools to address questions or concerns from children and families in the community, Wachholz said.

"We want to assure you that the safety, well-being and protection of the children in our district and community are our No. 1 priority," Wachholz said in a written statement.

Although there's now no statute of limitations on sexual assault of a child, that law did not go into effect until the mid-1980s. That means any offenses alleged to have occurred before that cannot be charged, Wentlandt noted.

Wentlandt said his department has assigned 11 people to the case this week, working at least 18 hours a day. So far, between 25 and 50 suspected victims have been interviewed, many of whom don't want to be involved in allegations.

"Most of these people are currently in their 40s, and they've held this secret for 30 years," Wentlandt said.

Daniel Acker: The worst kind of Child Molester

This story is still breaking and the Greenfield police had a press conference this morning and details are still coming out.....so I will update as I can...

Daniel Acker's obsession with missing children and a "strange infatuation with child murders" prompted Greenfield police to ask federal investigators to see whether there are ties between the man accused of dozens of sexual assaults and children who have disappeared since the 1970s, a Greenfield police investigator said Friday. Police who searched the basement of 61-year-old Acker's Waukesha home this week found a model police station, featuring a dozen photos of abducted and murdered children pasted to the inside walls; journals with hundreds of pages written on John Zera, a boy abducted and found dead in Whitnall Park in 1975; and 1970s model cars with the names and dates of death of abducted and murdered children written by Acker on the bottom.
There is no information right now to suggest that Acker is a suspect in any of the killings, but evidence has been turned over to the FBI and other local police agencies for further investigation, Deputy Inspector Bradley Wentlandt of the Greenfield Police Department said in a news conference Friday morning.

Acker remains locked up in Milwaukee County Jail while a team of Greenfield police continue their work into allegations that started on Monday accusing him of sexually assaulting boys between the ages of 7 and 15 going back to the 1970s. "He preyed on at-risk boys, those with no strong father figure in their lives," Wentlandt said. "We believe we've only scratched the surface in people we've talked to."
Police held the news conference Friday to see whether other accusers will come forward in light of the news released Thursday that Acker, who works as a part-time aquatics program coordinator for the West Allis-West Milwaukee Recreation Department, had been jailed on suspicion of sexually assaulting young boys for more than 30 years.
Acker was arrested Monday during a swim practice at West Milwaukee Middle School after a man in his 40s told police Monday that Acker had sexually assaulted him from 1971 to 1976, when he was between 11 and 15 years old. Since then, at least three other men in their 40s - including one who now lives in Tennessee - and a 19-year-old have told police they had been sexually assaulted by Acker when they were minors, Wentlandt said.
The first accuser came forward after he saw Acker walking into an area middle school, Wentlandt said. The victim contacted the recreation department, saying he couldn't believe Acker was still working there with young children.
Acker was arrested in the hours after police received a tip from Michele Strasser, coordinator of recreation for West Allis-West Milwaukee.
Strasser said Friday: "Myself, our staff, our whole community, this has taken a toll. Kids are the most important to us and their safety."

As soon as I find his booking photo I will post that also.

But I will say that he does NOT look like a child molester...he just looks like you average guy next door.....and that is what I believe enabled him to continue molesting boys for 30+ Years....-I am still trying to wrap my head around that myself.....

He looks like- shit the gig is up.
He better swim now the shit is getting deep. Maybe someone can drown his molesting ass in jail house toilet.

He was charged in Milwaukee County court this afternoon, with one count although I am POSITIVE many more will follow in the days and weeks ahead:

Daniel J. Acker, the longtime suburban Milwaukee swimming instructor, was charged Friday with one count of second degree sexual assault of a child. If convicted, Acker, 61, of Waukesha, faces up to 40 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He is expected to appear in intake court Saturday for a preliminary hearing.
Earlier Friday, authorities said Acker’s obsession with missing children and a “strange infatuation with child murdersâ€￾ prompted Greenfield police to ask federal investigators to see whether there are ties between the man accused of dozens of sexual assaults and children who have disappeared since the 1970s.

But wait, there's more!

http://media.journalinteractive.com/documents/acker032809.pdf

We have a criminal complaint.

http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/41976027.html

And then there's this:

Police who searched the basement of Acker’s home this week found a model police station, featuring a dozen photos of abducted and murdered children pasted to the inside walls; journals with hundreds of pages written on John Zera, a boy abducted and found dead in Whitnall Park in 1975; and 1970s model cars with the names and dates of death of abducted and murdered children written by Acker on the bottom.

I wonder why they decided on an incident from 2005 to charge him with?

It would seem that the most logical place to start would be with the latest victim.

Even though he is over 18 now, and "still involved" the case should be the easiest to prove....

Daniel Acker was in court this morning and was ordered held on $65,000 cash only bail.

So that means no property bonds....nothing cold grenn hard cash....

Still seems a little low for what he is accused of but I have a feeling there will be more charges coming.

WTF...here I am reading this thinking....wow...serial killer...maybe so...and the fuckers out. And what is up with the status quo except these two children....I just read another story where dude could be around his kids....:argh:

Daniel M. Acker of Alabaster lost his Alabama teaching certificate early in 2012 after being charged with sex abuse of former students. However, his retirement benefits will continue

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Convicted Shelby County child molester Daniel M. Acker Jr. has lost his Alabama teaching certificate, but he will continue to receive his teacher retirement.

Under current guidelines, nothing addresses conviction of a felony as it relates to pension payments.

"There is no provision in current law to prevent Mr. Acker from receiving his teacher pension," said Chris Townes, director of benefits for the Teacher Retirement System. Acker retired in June 2009 and has been receiving a benefits check of $2,550 each month, according to Townes.

A bill under consideration in the state senate could change the law for any fu*ture educators convicted of a felony, but Acker will con*tinue to receive his full com*pensation, according to Ma*lissa Valdez-Hubert, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Education.

SB213, sponsored by Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, has been passed by the Senate and is awaiting House ap*proval. If the House passes the bill, anyone in active state employment who pleads guilty or no contest, or is convicted of a felony offense related to the indi*vidual's position would for*feit retirement benefits. The individual would be refunded any personal contributions plus interest.

A person who already has retired and is convicted of a felony related to the position he retired from would have benefits suspended and would receive a partial refund of personal contributions plus interest.

The bill would apply to anyone who is a member of the Employees' Retirement System, the Teachers' Retirement System, or the Judicial Retirement Fund.

During a hearing Thursday in Shelby County Circuit Court, Acker pleaded guilty to eight counts of child sexual abuse. His victims had been his fourth-grade students and students who rode the school bus he drove. He was received sentences that will result 17 years in prison without parole, followed by 10 years of electronic monitoring.
